Then this midway level pack adds arcade games that you can collect and play later. When you play them, you're actually playing the classic games! It's like the gamecube Animal Crossing game where you could collect NES games. There are twelve cabinets to find and you get 20+ arcade games that you can actually play! I don't know if the list of which games you get would be a spoiler so I'll add them to a comment.
I've found 7 of the cabinets so far. The cabinets are spread out everywhere, not just in the Midway level. You have to have some of the other dimensions packs to find all the cabinets. It's a cool reason to go explore levels you've already completed. It would be a disappointment to me if I bought this for the arcade games but then didn't have access to the other sets needed to collect all the cabinets...
Once you unlock the cabinets, you go to the Midway adventure world to actually play the games. When you play the midway level, and the adventure world, everything is Lego just like the rest of the Dimensions game. But when you play the arcade games, they really are the arcade games. It's just like playing the arcade games from the 80's. The old games are emulated on your screen with black bars on the left and right (because the games are 4:3 like old TVs). It would be nice if we had scans of the old instruction books because some of the controls are different than what you expect. The games are hard, but that's the way the arcade games were back then. They're a great way to get studs since depending on how well you do playing the arcade games, you can get bronze, silver, or gold and the equivalent amount of studs.
I'm surprised at how much you get in this level pack with all the classic games. I really suggest this one if you have access to all the other worlds. The level is pretty cool and all the extra games are great! Read the comment if you want to know all the arcade games you can play.
If you're a fan of the old Midway games, you'll find plenty of nostalgia in this level pack. For example, back in the 80s I spent a fair amount of cash on Gauntlet. Well, lo and behold, there's a Gauntlet game in this level pack. Just as frustrating, holding true to the original design of sucking as much cash out of you as possible, only here...it can't, inasmuch as there's no quarter slot in my game console. Take that, Warner Brothers! And moreover, it's a much nicer experience playing these games on the console as opposed to the stupid Midway iPad app.
The hub world is also interesting, at least to me, and has some definite exploration/time waster potential.
Arcade Kid (or Gamer Kid, I guess he's known as) gives you some serious abilities...stealth, speed, invulnerability, super strength, and a laser. I kind of think of him as Neo from The Matrix. I'm working on upgrading the Spy Hunter car, but seriously...it's second in my heart only to the Back To The Future DeLorean for sheer cool/nostalgia reasons. Apparently it can be upgraded as a sub or a plane.
In addition, as you're wandering around the core game, Gamer Kid is needed to access certain hidden spots. So if you want to get 100% in Dimensions, you need this level pack.
Frankly, this level pack is worth the add on its own merits and independent of the other Lego Dimensions worlds. It's a lot of fun.
The games are in their original ROM format and even though the game is current with awesome effects the mini games are super basic graphics. Parents will enjoy these games more probably. They are super nostalgic. My kids had no idea what most of them were.
I am sure we will get lots of game play out of this pack.
