This mineral wool is coated with palladium. A precious metal that’s used in catalytic converters for its exceptional heat properties, adding to its cost. When used in a gas fireplace the wool glows much brighter and hotter than the regular mineral wool.
Needed to clean the inside of the glass on my fireplace so I decided to spruce up the fake coals while I was at it. There is a little bit of trial and error when installing them. Fluff the cubes up gently and pile them behind the gas holes. I used some long handled needle nose pliers to arrange and add more clumps while the fireplace was running to get it to look how I want. I’m sure this isn’t recommended but was the most efficient way to arrange them without turning it on and off over and over.

This is something to add to the "embers" of a gas fireplace after adding the standard rock wool. First, there was a learning curve for me for embers in general. I had thought that the gas coming out of all of the ports was at higher velocity than it was. The gas is just a gentle puff out of each hole so the rock wool has to be teased apart so that it is much less dense than a cotton ball. It should have the consistency of very loose fill in a comforter. If it is not really loose then that part of the embers is black and not burning.You put this on top of the rock wool and the embers will glow brighter. This gives variability to the embers and is more realistic.My suggestion to the manufacturer would be to ship this (and embers rock wool in general) in a puffed out airtight bag with the product already teased out.

Found these on Amazon and the price was right. If they made no difference, I wasn't going to be out that much money.
The difference these embers made is amazing. The fireplace is now a feature in the room. The embers add such a soft warmth. Worth the money. (pic doesn't do it justice)
