As a breeder of Great Danes, I have 7 of these. You would think that if you're creating and selling a product geared towards dogs 120+ lbs, you'd make and sell a product designed to stand up to the weight. You'd think wrong. The tray in this kennel is so thin, cheap, and flimsy if it's not already cracked and broken upon arrival, it will be soon after.
I have very mellow crate-trained danes. They are not "hard" on their crates by any means, but ranging from 115-160lbs, they're heavy. The tray in these things cracks along each of the wires on the undergrid. After going through MANY of these suckers, replacing the tray for $50 a pop, I found a solution.
Placing a mat or rug or blanket.. anything with some cushion, between the grid and the tray solves this problem, entirely. If your tray is already cracked and destroyed by the weight or your giant breed dog, duct tape the underside of the tray, and the top, and then put a rug under it. I just buy fleece at the fabric department on clearance, and double layer it on all of mine- it's a pretty cheap solution.

The rest of the crate is sturdy and hold up very well. I wish the tray could just be fantastic as-is. But it's not, and there's no better one out there, so that's what we've done to make do with that we have.

I have the colossal crate for my Great Dane, when I brought the product the pan was NOT included. Despite it being shown on the picture. So I had to buy this pan separately. First off right out of the box the pan had a broken edge, on top of that someone tried to hide it by covering it with a small card board square. It doesn't effect the use of the product however I thought this was poor service. The worst part of it all is that the pan doesn't even fit the crate correctly. Its actually 1.5 to 2 inches too small. So the pan slides around in the crate when the dog enters or exits.

Its bad enough you have to buy the pan separately even though its pictured on the colossal crate product, then you get a pan that doesn't even fit.

I ordered the largest (54") plastic dog crate floor pan to replace the second or third one destroyed by my Great Dane. After ordering, I was talking with a friend about a more permanent solution to the problem of flimsy floor pans and he came up with a great idea. He had two rectangles of 5/8 plywood cut to the measurements of the inside of the bottom of my dog's crate. I dropped them in and, VOILA, permanent, indestructible flooring that will easily withstand my 180-lb Dane's weight! I stained the wood to match the floor on which the crate sits, put the dog's bed on top of the wood, and he is a happy camper. I should never have to replace this flooring, and it comes with only a tad more effort than removing the plastic pan. I returned the MidWest Solution Series Plastic Pan for a refund of all but shipping costs (since I changed my mind). Still better than spending $36.30 for the flimsy plastic pan which might have lasted only a few months. I don't recommend plastic pans of any sort for larger dogs. The plastic is simply not strong enough to handle their weight and movement.

I have purchased Midwest kennels for many years for medium to giant breed dogs. But, the plastic used in the latest versions are waaaaay too friable for the size of the dogs that will be in the kennels. When I first bought the latest two 54DD kennels, one pan was already cracked and the other had holes melted through it. The two Irish Wolfhounds are relatively calm in their kennel, and yet both pans have cracked apart even though I had stiff rugs between the pan and the bottom bars of the crate. I can't put any type of soft stuff in place of the pan as they are voracious chewers. I think the key is to put a piece of plywood, or other stiff board, between the pan and the metal. This would stop the movement of the pan and lessen the cracking. So far so good, but I'll let you know...
Love the kennel, hate the pan.

We bought our big ol' crate over a decade ago for our first mastiff and it has housed a succession of rescue dogs. The plastic pan it came with held up for years but it was time for a new one.

I was worried about ordering the pan because:

1. reviewers said it sometimes arrived damaged in transit

2. it was flimsy

Here's my experience:

1. we received our pan by mail and it was damaged in one corner. The next day, we heard from the seller, who apologized and said a new one would be sent right away. It was, and it was perfect! And we were able to keep the other pan, too. No hassle.

2. we do rescue and have had a variety of dogs temporarily housed in the crate. The only one who did damage to the pan was our diggin' bloodhound girl. But I read a super tip from one of the reviewers which we implemented: put a doubled-up blanket between the pan and the metal floor of the crate to help preserve the plastic pan.

So we were happy with the way things turned out!

I was not expecting much after reading most of the reviews, but had little choice since the original pan for my 54" Midwest crate -- although still quite usable -- was starting to develop a crack down the center. I was hoping I would at least get lucky that it did not get damaged in shipment, as others experienced.

I purchased the 54" crate and pan from Midwest for my last Dane in 2009. She was a bit unruly as a pup, but the pan held up fine during those times. As with all of my dogs, once she was old enough to have free roam of the house, the crate is accessible but not used often (as all Dane owners know: they prefer couches. lol!). It was still in good shape when I got my little Dane pup this year; he's not at all unruly so I blame the cracked pan on myself: I would often step into the crate to clean up after him rather than remove the pan. Somehow, I didn't realize that the pan comes out easily through the door -- while I thought I would have to try to unhook the 'roof' of the crate to get the pan out. Once I realized how easy it was to remove, I decided to buy a new pan and do it right from then on! I thought the pan that came with the crate was a bit flimsy, but since it held up to years of use, I was hoping for at least the same quality, but had my doubts based on these reviews.

The pan came in -- unscathed, fortunately!! -- and I was amazed at how much thicker and better quality it was compared to the original Midwest pan that I still had. I had to wonder what others had received. It is definitely thicker and heavier than the original pan that came with the crate; just in weight alone you can feel a difference.
