What a totally unexpected treat! The Midwinter Mail-Order Bride was a fantastic fantasy read I couldn’t put down.
Kael is a giant, barbaric sexy beast who’s conquered four kingdoms by force. Feared by all, even his subjects, he has no real patience for kingly duties. When his up-to-that-moment-unexpected-bride arrives at his palace, he can’t get to her fast enough.
Anja’s first encounter with her future husband doesn’t go according to plan, or her plan at least. When she blurts out what she intends to do once they’re wed, Kael tells her to return home. He will accompany her though, to make sure she gets there… and because he is bored out of his mind from sitting on his butt all day.
A trip full of perils, monsters to fight off and a quest to save her family gives them the opportunity to get to know one another. Their miscommunication got a little on my nerves, especially when they begin to develop strong feelings for each other, but the relationship building was so sweet I could, mostly, overlook it.
I loved them both. With different but equally difficult childhoods, they both became strong, willful, and courageous people. I found the world Ms. Wilde built for this story to be fabulous, and I’m hoping we’ll get to see more stories spin off from this one. The Midwinter Mail-Order Bride was much more than what I was hoping for and I can’t say enough times how much I loved it. Filled with action, mystery, steamy longing and sweet romance I couldn’t put it down and wanted it to keep going!!!
The romance is also exceptional between two misunderstood individuals that want to be loved for who they are. Not everything is at it seems but as they journey together back to heroine's realm for a quest they start to really learn about each other. Their bond grows as they are tested time and time again by thieves, misunderstanding, insecurities, magical creatures and more. Will they learn that together all is possible and what they always needed might be there right infront of them? All I will say is this is not clean read and once hero gets started it's like all that sexual tension just breaks! He is insatiable! It's safe read. It's not novel skip around to really enjoy and it's not quick read for many. Nice epilogue. Would love follow up book on the couple maybe see what other sexy quest they work together in like that pesky neighbor. It does describe violence but none sexual. It's safe read. No cheating. Pretty sweet read at times. Read it on my KU.
Can Kati Wilde pretty please write more fantasy-style romance? I would read that all day long. This story was excellence. SO GOOD!! I am really beginning to dislike books where the characters meet, jump into bed ad fall in love; even if they seem to dislike each other while they profess their undying love. This book isn't that at all. The characters start weary of each other and over a three week period fall hard for each other.
The slow burn romance between Kael and Anja is what makes this book. And I love the fact that even though Kael is a brutal conqueror he would never take anything from a woman that wasn't freely given. Consent is sexy. Kael is the perfect warrior king. He's strong, courageous and deadly. He's earned everyone of his names, Kael the Conqueror, Kael the Butcher, Kael the Wolfkiller. He is a good king and a good man.
Anja is a warrior in her own right and has an inner strength that is impressive. She believes the stories of Kael before she meets him. But as she gets to know him she is that and so much more. He wants her, she wants him, neither one realizes it... Fantastic story line unfolds.
READ THIS BOOK!! You will not regret it.
Magic and monsters and a mail order bride (even though this was more of a dispatch order bride) brought together in a brilliantly written story that I hope will lead to a sequel (the author did build a sequel plot into the end of the story). The author built this fantastic world and populated it with intriguing characters. Kael and Anja seem to be so different at the start of the story but as the story develops, you can see that they are both just trying to find their place in the world. Even though the main plot is the growing relationship between the two main characters, the book spends a lot of time building this world and going over the rules of magic use and the background of Kael. There is very little sex in this book - so if you are not into the fantasy and relationship building of the story - it may not be the right book for you. I found this book engrossing and I could not put it down. A great conclusion and epilogue, give this story a fantastic finish.
I borrowed this book with Kindle Unlimited and want to thank the author for offering her book on the program.
