Book Description

January 1, 2009
Might Over Right provides a critical account of one of the most remarkable stories in the 20th century’s history of international relations – the history of how, in the relatively short time of 30 years, Zionist leaders managed, with the help of Western (mainly British) supporters, to wrestle a country away from its inhabitants, and in the process to profoundly affect the course of international relations and fundamentally transform the history of the Middle East.

Extensively documented, relying mostly on Zionist, British and Israeli sources, and sweeping in scope, the book makes a crucial contribution to the growing effort to challenge the simplistic and reductive accounts in media and scholarship in the West – one of the principal causes of the perpetuation of the conflict.

Might Over Right goes beyond the Israeli new historians’ accounts that focus on specific aspects of the Zionist–Palestinian confrontation. It also goes beyond the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 to critically analyze the latest dimensions of the Arab–Israeli conflict, and of the continued Israeli–Palestinian confrontation.

Editorial Reviews

Adel Safty's meticulous and careful study reveals a shameful record of betrayal and tragedy. --Noam Chomsky

Adel Safty's new book, Might Over Right, is an important accomplishment. It is a powerful indictment of the Machiavellian politics of deception and brutality that uprooted a whole nation and dispossessed its people. --Former Congressman Paul Findley

Adel Safty's book constitutes a cogent and well documented account of the establishment of Israel and the dispossession and relocation of the indigenous people of Palestine. It ought to be a mandatory read for everyone interested in the Middle East and everyone with a genuine wish to understand how the Arab/Israeli conflict came about and why solutions have proven to be so elusive. It takes us into the dark and sinister alleyways of power politics - the realm of betrayal, deceit, greed and ice-cold ruthlessness, completely demasking the story, we were all told and grew up to believe. Thus it dramatically challenges the dominant narrative of this conflict in the Western world, but does so on the basis of a wealth of official documents, mainly British, Zionist and American. It is a depressing book, because it is a depressing story with no white knight appearing at the end. Safty is a passionate (though objective) writer, but not really an eloquent one. Keen to drive home his important points, the book contains many unnecessary repetitions. Reading the book can therefore occasionally appear tiresome, but due to its content, it is worth every effort. It deserves the widest possible dissemination.

4.0 out of 5 stars a story as old as Time January 31, 2014
It is books like this that serve as a healthy corrective to the endless tidal wave of pro-Zionist propaganda which inundates our society. But it is merely the latest chapter in a story that is as old as Time itself. We find exact parallels in the takeover of Australia from the aborigines, the takeover of New Zealand from the Maoris, the takeover of Hawaii from the Polynesians, the takeover of the Americas from the "Indians" and so forth. As Sir Walter Scott put it in 'The Lady of the Lake': "The stranger came with iron hand, and from our fathers reft the land. The Gael, of plain and river heir, shall with strong hand redeem his share."
