Despite not having any amiibo support and not utilizing the game pad, the wii u version is still my system of choice. Because the game does use the off-tv play function. At the end of the day, to me the zero series is still the best megaman platformer and if that didn't scratch your itch. Give Azure Striker Gunvolt a try. I'm still glad I have Mighty No. 9 added to my collection though.
Now then, those of you that download the Ray DLC, I can tell you now it is far more challenging than I thought it would be. Ray is like playing with Zero on Mega Man X, but she's like playing a berserk version of Zero, who needs to be constantly destroying other robots to keep her health from declining.
I have never have put a game down after 10 minutes to just throw it away since it has no value (its currently 11.88 right now on amazon). Just save your money. There is better options. I am being nice when I say this is a bad game.
Pros: Game designer
Yep, that's about it.
Cons:
1. Graphically for a game in development for that long and using a 'next gen' console . . no no no no. If Mario games and many others can have very nice and clean looking graphics . . clearly it can be done. Mighty #9 didn't.
2. Load times are stupid. I feel like I am playing a beta version of MMX4 on the original Playstation. Yep, they are that bad for a game that clearly does not require that much loading of information.
3. The gameplay is pretty bad. I have either jumped off of a ledge I was falling down and hit the insta-death purple, or been clearly over the opening and jumped up like it was a ledge, or magically let go of a ledge and dashed to my death trying to save myself, or have the game tell me "HINT: USE CROUCH DASH" only to use it and have it not work. I know this is NOT a megaman game, but these controls are so loose and so bad I can't enjoy trying to play it.
4. This could quite possibly be just on the WiiU, but there was a spot in the game where a large bore machine slowly creeps towards you and you have to shoot things, jump, dash, shoot through the platforms, etc. The game was so laggy it nearly froze. I hit the jump and I heard the jumping sound . . but on screen there was no jumping. It was a random glitch fest of non-sense that lead to not 1, not 2, but 3 deaths in the exact same spot.
5. Boss battles aren't the worst thing ever and while I can appreciate what they were trying to do with the different phases of them . . in the end combined with how bad the gameplay is, they are just unreasonably hard to beat.
I really, REALLY wanted to like this game. I pre-ordered it as soon as I could and waited as the date kept getting pushed back. I have no problem paying $60 for a game if it is at least decent. I feel kind of ripped off paying nearly $30 for this. Overall it really does feel like they got tired of working on it and just pushed it out half baked. On a side note, I've played just about every megaman game since they first came out, and while those are frustrating in their own rights . . I should have at least enjoyed playing this some. I really haven't though.
