A fine retrospective of many Sylvester disco hits from the late seventies and a couple from 1980's 'Sell My Soul' album, before he entered his 80's high energy phase. Some tracks here have been long overshadowed by the bigger and better known hits, and it's nice to have a light shown upon them. A couple break from the steady disco beat. "Changes" and "Over and Over" are horn-driven and more in an R&B groove, while the sly and slinky lope of "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight"" may be initially off-putting but grows with repeated listens, as the tempo and lyrical yearning wed perfectly into an emotional/musical marriage to which every real human can relate. The classics are, well... classic, and will always be great to hear. The only downer: Track 1 is a total waste, a real toilet flusher, repetitious, tedious, drawn out, aimless "intro" to nothing, an endlessly pensive build with no climax. It never kicks in nor goes anywhere. Pointless.

The audio is terrific, highlighting Sylvester's unique falsetto while clearly and sparklingly reproducing the distinct instrumentation of these densely produced orchestral/synthesized fusion works. Delicious. Tracks are separated; this is not a mixed CD. Liner notes are informative about Sylvester and players on the tracks. Artwork includes photos of Sylvester and vinyl records, and album and 12" single covers. A tip of the (feathered, sequined, gold lame) hat to the team behind this release.

This isn't complete. It's missing Do You Wanna Funk, Trouble in Paradise, and Menergy. Still, the hits are there and the mastering does justice to the release of this new compilation. Akin to Madonna's Confessions, the vinyl is pink and the cover and liner notes are beautiful. The timelessness of this Hits release is reduced with the inclusion of Ralphi Rosario's dub of You Make Me Feel. That was quite unnecessary and ultimately the sound of his remix is similar to everything else he has done since the early 2000's. He needs to update his sound really, but the rest of the songs sounds as fresh as ever. Truly a must-have for the collectors of San Francisco Hi-Nrg and fans of Patrick Cowley alike.

Nearly perfect: I'm giving it 5 stars because I love Sylvester and his music, and I love this collection even though it is lacking in one obviously needed track, Do You Wanna Funk. Other than that, this is a wonderful collection of his happy and freeing and full of joy dance/disco music. The remix included of You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) is a great update of the original classic. I discovered some tracks I hadn't really explored before, which made my purchase even more worthwhile. Get up with the get down.

Great collection of early dance hits. You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) is my favorite and sounds just like my original 12 inch vinyl version. The booklet is nice and the price is right. No one has been able to match the talent or the vocals of this wonderful human being. I hope one day someone will do a movie about his life. His legacy lives on.

In those dark days before disco was re-discovered and it had to remain a guilty pleasure for many, the undisputed queen of disco was Sylvester. A lot of disco acts flooded our living rooms at the time via the flickering tube in the corner but Sylvester always seemed so mightily real - so much more authentic than the wave of manufactured acts filtered through a homophobic, British sensibility that were so stilted your auntie could dance to them. The intro to the title track here is gorgeous enough to have made my heart beat faster every time I've heard it in every decade since this meisterwerk was released. Music like this is a leveller. Truly listen to this stuff and it will seep into your veins. It has the power to make you perform on a dance floor like you never performed before; it can make you soar. Sylvester's voice is a lush and amazing instrument. What a legacy this man has left behind - so real, so beautiful. If you ever wondered what disco was really about and you only want to buy one album let it be this one.

This 2013 cd contains 11 of Sylvester's tracks including the new Ralphi Rosario remix of "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) and the total playing time is over 79 minutes long. It also contains a 6 minute 20 second version of "You Make Me Feel" and 8 minute 21 version of "Dance (Disco Heat)". Also contains longer versions of "Stars", "Can't Stop Dancing", "Over And Over", "Body Strong" and the wonderful "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight" although it is hard to determine if these are the 12 inch or LP versions as the times on other CDs vary. No "I Who Have Nothing" or "Do You Wanna Funk" so maybe Volume 2 is needed! Sound quality is very good. Package also contains a booklet of photographs and liner notes.

One of my own gay heros, got this mainly to have the full 12" version of Dance (Disco Heat) on CD at long last, no other Sylvester Disc does !.
Track one is a remix of mighty real and it SUCKS, thankfully the original 12" is on here too, my other fav track is the Patrick Cowley penned I need somebody to love tonight, Thinking this track was made in the 70's is hard to believe ! it sounds so modern, it's like ambient chilled house and it's so mornful as Sylvester singings about being lonely and just needing someone to cuddle, hug with, anyone who's every been here will know what the man is singing about.

This is an excellent collection of Sylvester's hits. I bought it primarily because I wanted some Sylvester on vinyl. However, I had no idea whether this would be good or not (in terms of sound quality of the pressing) so I was just taking a chance. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it is excellent and it is getting played a lot more than I had anticipated! The sound quality is wonderful and the quality of the sleeve and the vinyl itself (which is translucent pink!) are top notch. The only track I really wanted that is missing is Do You Wanna Funk?, but the new remix of Mighty Real is excellent.
