Photo Scale Not Consistent on Each Page, No Close-Ups of Interesting Features
on December 15, 2015
An overwhelming plethora of photos, but severely flawed. My impression is that more thought was given to laying out the book prettily than to making the book a useful reference.
1. On the same page, different weapons will be shown to different scales. So one sword may be shown spanning two pages, while another sword may be shown below it just spanning half a page, but in reality the sword shown smaller is actually bigger than the one shown larger! Extremely misleading and frustrating.
2. Little attempt was made to actually show the interesting parts in a useful way. For example, a page might show a flintlock gun and describe the mechanism, but without a diagram that would have made the flintlock mechanism more understandable, not even a closeup view of the mechanism. Useless. Or another page might show a sword and in the description say there is an inscription running down the length of the blade, but nothing of the inscription can be seen in the photo. It does not appear that any attempt was made to adjust the lighting or angle so that kind of detail could be seen in the photo.
