This spring I'll clean it up, sand it down and repaint it. I don't like writing negative reviews but fairly disappointed - I really don't need another item on my to do list. Not worth the return shipping cost.
Cons: rusted, dented, hinges are hard to move. Not what I was expecting for the cash. I am planning to grind them and repairing them myself so I don't just throw them in the garage. Luckily I have the tools to repair them...but I shouldn't have to for the price! Buyer beware!
Anyone writing reviews complaining of black spray paint on the ammo can, or that the ammo can does not specifically say .50 or any other caliber on the side of the can (such as the 5.56mm displayed on the product page) has no idea what they are talking about. Soldiers in the field will spray paint empty cans black to mark them as empty. A soldier in the heat of battle would need to know which cans have ammo in them, and black spray paint marking empty cans makes identifying a can as empty quick and simple. Also, the .50 cal (or .30 cal for that matter) description of the can refers to the SIZE of the can, not necessarily which caliber ammo was stored in it. Although this size ammo can was initially made for the .50 BMG round, other ammunition is also stored in these same size cans, and the cans may be labelled as such.
I understand that this can is used, but I was expecting the wear to be limited to scratches and dents. The can was in no condition to fulfill its purpose of storing ammunition, and keeping it dry. To add insult to injury, the seller applied a restocking fee to the return (as to imply that this item will be resold). I ended up getting a brand new ammo can for $17 locally. Don't waste your money.
The only negative about this is the price. I know for a fact you can get these for under 10 dollars at any gun show or Army Surplus store. I bought it on-line out of laziness. If you can avoid the laziness go out and get it at an actual store instead and save your self a couple of bucks.

Shipping was 3 weeks, and unlike the photo this has been repainted. Very poorly repainted, thick dust in the paint from being partially dry when overspray landed on it. Read morePublished on February 2, 2014 by Hawk 3/21

It's a .50 Caliber Ammo Can. That largely sums it up. You're getting what you paid for. But, the great thing here is not whether or not you receive an ammo can when you order it. Read morePublished on January 5, 2014 by Grant Fritchey
These boxes are the real thing. The lid has a good seal. I use them for a fire-proof storage container for Lipo RC batteries.Published on December 31, 2013 by J. Francis
