I accidentally ordered it by mistake and contacted him to return it, he was a total gentalman but after I thought about it I looked at this book and it was an incrediible book so rather than return it I gave it to a friend who's a military buff and he was very happy. Probably the best overall book on the subject. The photos, although some of poor quality, are worth the price of admission alone. If you are looking for an "encyclopedic" work on the subject of military vehicles, this is for you. Organized logically and its easy to find stuff.

A Photo Dictionary of US Military Vehicles

Fred Crismon has accumulated an immense library of photographs, a chronicle of US military motor vehicles from 1900 to the 1980's, and he offers us about 400 of them in this volume. It covers hundreds of machines, some now totally obscure, and the book offers info on both military and civilian designs. It is divided up according to the number of axles, powered and unpowered, and each section is chronologically arranged. The book includes performance specifications and the general history of each design. For well-known types like the jeep, the book is less useful than specialty publications, but it excels in obscure types, particularly those serving wth the peacetime army. There are also sections devoted to specialty types like staff cars, ambulances, and wreckers. It is well worth tracking down.

An amazing collection of photos!

I just recieved my copy this morning and was floored by the shear number of photos. Some of the subjects covered are incredibly obscure; from the overland train to the teracruzer. An absolutly huge book that is a great reference item. The one thing that sold me on this book was the fact that it actually includes fire apparatus, it's very rare to find any reference photos of military fire apparatus anywhere... My only complaint is that it stops in the '80s and there aren't any color photos except the front and back cover.

This book is absolutly awesome! A friend of mine has a hard bound copy, and I knew I wanted one but could not find it in print! I own military vehicles and the info. and details this book offers is priceless! I share it with all of my friends that enjoy it as well!
