Product Description
Did you know half of moms stop breastfeeding within the first six months because of milk supply issues? Milkmakers cookies are a delicious, convenient way for nursing moms to get extra nourishment to boost lactation. Milkmakers Lactation Cookie Mix in Oatmeal Chocolate Chip is chock-full of semi-sweet chocolate chunks and chewy oatmeal. A mix makes 12 cookies. Bake them up with butter or dairy-free. Our cookies are all organic and natural. They are preservative-free and fenugreek-free. How do lactation cookies work? Oats help boost breast milk supply, and are a nutritional powerhouse, providing plenty of whole grains, fiber, iron, and an abundance of healthy vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Brewer’s yeast is a traditional remedy used to stimulate and increase the production of breast milk and is a rich source of the B-vitamins and amino acids essential for nursing moms and their babies. Flaxseed provides omega-3 fatty acids, necessary for brain development, which can be passed through breast milk. These ingredients work together to make Milkmakers a wholesome snack for breastfeeding moms. For Best Results Our cookies work hard for you! Eating one or two lactation cookies every day can help support a healthy milk supply. While every woman's body is different, most moms notice more milk production after a few days. Grab and Go Too busy to eat? Tuck a cookie in your bag and you're ready for another busy breast feeding day. Hospitals and lactation consultants love our breastfeeding cookies too! Our Story Emily Kane, founder of Milkmakers, created Milkmakers cookies because she needed them. After her baby was born and she went back to work, her milk supply went down and a lactation consultant recommended lactation cookies. She saw an immediate boost once she ate them! Her products include Milkmakers Cookies and Milkmakers Tea, all designed to make breastfeeding less stressful so that moms can focus on what really matters. Go Moms!

I saw this product in my search for ways to increase production, and thought, wow, a $20 bag of cookies (this bag make 12 cookies)! But because of the overwhelming number of 5 star reviews, I bit the bullet. I got my mix and proceeded to make the cookies (I used the coconut oil option instead of butter for added health benefits). I ate a staggering 3 of these cookies a day (that's an extra 630 calories per day NOT counting the huge mound of oil I added!!!!) for 4 days with NO notable increase in breast milk production. Ouch.
So, here are the KEY TAKEAWAYS from this experience:
1. This is a $20 bag of oatmeal cookies (and not even very tasty oatmeal cookies... my 3 year old described them as "Ehh" before handing the rest of his cookie back to me). By day four, I was grudgingly shoving them in my mouth for the principle of it all.
2. The "breast milk producing" ingredients are oatmeal and brewer's yeast. Why not just eat a bowl of oatmeal and get a brewer's yeast supplement at a fraction of the cost?
3. This product contains soy lecithin, and it doesn't say it's NON GMO certified, so chances are it's from GMO soy. The wheat is probably also from GMO crops because it's not organic either. But the chocolate is! Hooray! (can you feel the sarcasm?)
4. I don't need another reason to keep the pregnancy weight on. ("But I HAVE to eat them for the sake of the baby!!!")
5. If I'm gonna ingest that many extra calories, I choose my usual gluten-free, non GMO cookie of choice. At least I know what I'm eating.
6. Better yet, go online and find a truly oatmeal cookie that isn't made with wheat.
Those are my thoughts. But I know I'm in the minority, so what do I know?
The taste is good but it's not a real dessert cookie. It's more like a seeet, soft granola bar. I eat two a day in place of snacks.
Thank you Milkmakers!!
