Works Great to Clean Water Distiller Machines

If you have a water distiller machine, citric acid is a necessity to keep the stainless steel pot clean, because after boiling all the water from the pot, all is left is the mineral buildup. All you have to do is fill the pot with water, pour a couple of tablespoons of citric acid, and let the water boil for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, dump the citric acid water mix and rinse it out with fresh water. That's it, no scrubbing necessary.

I used vinegar on my last coffee maker, and that may have contributed to the early failure of the plastic and/or rubber parts in it. (It started to leak water through the bottom of the maker.) Since citric acid is the main ingredient in name-brand coffee-maker cleaners, this product seems like an obvious choice, and is probably less harmful to your equipment than vinegar. My one precaution is to make sure you don't make the mistake I did my first time using this product. Because it is a powder, not a liquid, it must be stirred into the water and dissolved. My first time using it, I stirred it directly into the cold water in the tank of the coffee maker. Though I ran water through the system more times than what is called for, it left a taste in the two large jars of coffee I made afterward. (I'm guessing that some of the powder in the tank did not dissolve thoroughly when I cleaned the maker.) What I did the second time using it was dissolve the powder in a cup of HOT water first, and then I added that to the water already in the tank. The coffee was wonderful after that small correction.
