Some artists are odd ducks. But wait until you meet these odd duck-artists! THE MILLION DOLLAR DUCK follows the humorous and heartfelt journey of six wildlife artists competing to win the Federal Duck Stamp Contest—the only juried art competition run by the U.S. government and one of the most successful conservation tools ever created. Feathers will be ruffled and some egos will be bruised, but for one contestant, winning "the Olympics of wildlife art" will be life-changing.

I'm a long time stamp collector, art lover, nature lover and documentary lover. This hour long confection rings all of my bells.
But, I'll bet that many other lovers will enjoy it greatly as well. The film makers follow several different artists who have a number of different jobs, a few of them full time artists, including a sign and window painter, a lady who sells fewer paintings than her blind cat who does very well indeed, three brothers who have won the competition a total of seven times between them, including place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd after the film was made, and a diligent fellow with a very nice wife and three kids, on the verge of quitting painting to better support his family -- until he actually wins in the year the film was made.
There are others -- and the winning duck isn't actually worth a million dollars -- the guy who promotes it admits there is nothing but glory available for winning but assures us the winning painter will receive a million or more from their future productions.
More than anything else, this is a wonderful insight into a very wholesome aspect of human behavior -- and all in a wonderful cause -- a small government initiative that even strong conservatives, and certainly strong conservationists can applaud and support.

Duck stamp dollars have raised millions of dollars to preserve wildlife in America since the programs inception in 1934. This entertaining documentary takes you through the history of the Federal duck stamp program, introduces you to many artists who enter the annual contest, gives you a behind the scene look at the judges meetings and culminates in the tension of watching the judging, while you hold your breath to see who wins.
Hopefully you will learn how important this program is to the United States and maybe you will even purchase a stamp. Enjoy!
