Product Description
Milty Zerostat 3 Anti-Static Gun removes static electricity from the surface of any LP, perfect for record cleaning. This device is an anti-static generator which has numerous applications, but for audiophiles, the main use is to remove the static charge on the surface of a record. A slow squeeze of the Zerostat "trigger" releases a steady stream of ions, which removes the built-up static charge on the surface of an LP instantly. The Zerostat is perfect for eliminating the static charge that builds up due to the rotation of a Record Cleaning Machine and its suction tube and eliminates this charge with a slow pull of the trigger. The Zerostat antistatic gun was discovered to have great applicability for use in photographic darkrooms to remove dust from film and negatives.

Overall, this is the only product of its kind that I know of, and it is effective, albeit if subjectively.
It is a bit pricey what what it seems to be. It is all plastic as far as one can see, but it feels solid enough. Do not drop it.
But does it *do things?* Yes it does. If you put a volt meter in the area, you will definitely register a changing EMF as you gently and release the trigger. I don't have a quantitative assessment. Yet.
It has but two operations: pull trigger, release trigger. You do have to do these slowly. If it clicks you went too fast. Slow and steady wins this race.
Subjectively, I think this helps with playback of vinyl records on old-school turntables in the winter in a northern state. The static charge buildups are horrible in this environment, but this device does seem to help!
I should like to conduct some quantitative studies. I will share them here.
Hold the record in one hand while aiming the Zerostat 3 at the center of the record at about 12 inches away.
Slowly pull the trigger. If you click, you pulled too fast. Equally slowly release the trigger. Repeat four times. Repeat on other side of record.
At about 25% of the "better" product out there, I think the Zerostat 3 is an excellent and effective tool.
I went over to YouTube, where I saw some guy doing a live review. He took a piece of two ply toilet paper, showed us how it was sticking to the vinyl due to electrostatic. He then use the Milty and I’ll be darned if that paper didn’t fall right off. With that I figured to take a gamble.
I got delivery on this guy yesterday, but never really had a chance to try till today. Needless to say the first thing I pulled out was that same terrible looking piece of vinyl from last week. What could be a better test?
I grabbed myself a little piece of two ply toilet paper, laid it on the vinyl and sure enough that paper sticks like it was scotch taped to the record.
I pulled out my new Milty to give it a shot. I follow the directions by holding a 12 inches in front of me, giving it a very slow squeeze and even slower release. I zapped the side fully 4 times, one squeeze per quadrant.
I then placed the paper back on the vinyl and enjoyed the sight of that paper fluttering its way to the ground.
I am listening to that same piece of vinyl and the difference is like night and day.
I did a bunch of research before buying the unit and noticed that people were having trouble with the unit and only getting a series of clicks and zero result. That trigger needs to be sloooowly pulled back and again super slow in returning the trigger to its position. If the unit is clicking, it’s because one is not using the unit slowly enough.
Thanks Milty folks!
After doing a couple of hundred LP's into PT without it I could kick myself for not getting one sooner. When used right it takes a VERY noticeable amount of static pops and clicks out of the equation, and almost more importantly it drastically cuts down on dirt and gunk build up on my cartridge. I Spin Clean all my vinyl and keep them in Mobile Fidelity inner sleeves, yet junk can still find it's way to the stylus even if I only play them one time to rip them.
Key phrase above is "when used right", as there is next to no instructions for this thing. Hell I might not even be doing it the best way, but what I do is hold the LP about a foot away from the gun, and while slowly squeezing the trigger all the way in (@ 30 seconds) I rotate the gun around the record working into the center label. I repeat the process from in to out on the release. If you do it too quick (and that seems to depend on how much static is on the LP) you'll hear a noticeable static click. For GP if that happens I start the process all over again, but at the rate I do it rarely does. I also zap my cartridge before each long listening/ripping session and as mentioned I very rarely get any dirt or gunk cling. (though of course I dap the stylus with a dry Magic Eraser after each vinyl side-a great tip I read on the cable klan blogs mentioned above...
It's @ $100. For a casual vinyl fan that may seem like a lot, but if you are archiving as I am or just want the best possible experience with what you have, think of this as a hi tech Rain X for your sonic windshield. It's crazy, but I can't recommend it enough. 5-stars.

A month ago, I decided to come back to the analog recordings. What a deception when I discovered that so called antistatic fiber carbon brushes do not remove the dust from the records because it is attracted by static electricity. So I started searching for antistatic devices and found that Zerostat still existed and did not hesitate to buy it. It works just perfectly.
The procedure is not complicated. Slowly press the trigger for about 3 to 5 sec, from a distance of about 30 cm and direct towards the "upper" side of the record (1). Then slowly release the trigger for another 3 to 5 sec. Repeat the same on the left (2) and right (2) sides and finish with the same process towards the center (4) of the LP.
These are well spent 12 to 20 sec of your time in order to have crackle free listening.
Then use your brush to remove the dust from the static free surface. Nothing is simpler than that.
Zerostat really works and I am not surprised. The joy of listening your favorite music without crackling is worth every penny you spend on it.
