Product Description

The Milwaukee BA-475B two-piece full port ball valve is made of brass and has a lever handle and female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connections on both ends. This valve is made of brass for higher corrosion resistance than steel and has a lever handle made of zinc-plated steel for manual on/off control. The ball valve is full port for reduced friction; its inner diameter is the same as the inner diameter of the pipe it connects to enable maximum operating efficiency. The maximum pressure is 600 pounds per square inch (psi) for use with water, oil, and gas (WOG) and 150 psi for steam working pressure (SWP). The working temperature range is 0 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The valve is inline for connecting two pipes going in the same direction and has NPT threads on both ends for creating tighter seals than straight threads. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) seats and seals reduce the risk of valve leakage. This valve is for use with water lines, processing plants, and agricultural applications and meets standards MSS SP-110, ANSI/NSF 61, and ASME A112.4.14 for quality assurance.

Ball valves use a spherical disc to control the flow between pipes, tubes, or hoses. Flow is allowed when the hole that pierces the ball-shaped disc is in line with the inlet and outlet of the valve. Flow is blocked when the ball is horizontally swiveled 90 degrees, so that the hole of the ball is perpendicular to the opening of the valve. Ball valves can be referred to as full port or reduced port (also known as regular or standard port) depending on the inner diameter of the valve. A ball valve is full port if the hole of the ball is the same size as the inner diameter of the connecting pipeline (resulting in lower friction) and is reduced port if the hole of the valve is one pipe size smaller than the pipe, resulting in less flow through the valve than through the shaft of the pipe. Ball valves may have a handle or lever that aligns with the ball’s position (open or closed) for manual operation. They are primarily used in air, gas, liquid, and steam applications.

The Milwaukee Valve Company manufactures manual and actuated valves, controls, and control accessories. The company, founded in 1901, and headquartered in New Berlin, WI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 and 14001:2004 standards.

I bought this 3/4" valve for my main water line (UPBA475B). I decided to buy a Milwaukee Valve because they are an American manufacturing company with a good reputation.
When I got the valve, the first thing I looked for was where it was made. To my disappointment, it is China. It seems that they try to hide the fact that's it's made in China by the type of script writing they used (see picture). Since this was made in China, I decided to bring it to my office and have the metal analyzed with an XRF analyzer (x-ray fluorescence). This shows what elements are in the metal. Since this is a brass bodied ball valve, there would be copper and zinc. This valve had a little extra of another element - LEAD (Pb). According to their specification sheet, this valve is tested and certified to conform to ANSI 372, which is "lead free" (no more than .25% lead allowed-see pic). According to my analysis, this has almost 3% lead (see analysis picture).
3% may not seem to be a big deal, but it is over 10x what the allowable amount of lead is.
I sent Milwaukee Valve an email asking them about this. I will update this review once I hear back.

Ordered so I could have a outdoor shutoff for natural gas with my new Weber natural gas grill.. Well built and has been outside for about a year now with no problems. Very easy to use and adds protection with a outdoor natural gas line....
