What makes this book different is the fact that the author doesn't call himself a 'guru'. Rob's down-to-earth personality reflects in the book which makes the reader feel that he's no different from us. So, it makes it all the more easy to follow Rob's advice. He has discussed some profound spiritual concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
The biggest takeaway for me from this book are the following:
- Focus on the present. The present is all that we have because in reality the past & future do not exist.
- The easiest way to start meditating is by concentrating on our breathing.
- Do not worry or complain about things you have no control on.
- A healthy body is as important as a happy mind. I'm going to enroll into a yoga class soon :)
Thanks Rob for writing this book. I am sure your father will be watching you from above and feeling extremely proud!
Here are some solid reasons why I highly recommend this book from Rob Cubbon:
-- A strong focus on living in the present moment as the only real reality we have;
-- A great approach on life not just from the perspective that we are "simply human beings" but divine creatures capable of anything.
-- The material delivers an approach that digs deep and encourages readers to strongly evaluate their level of thinking;
-- Explains, "You are the experience" and "Not the Experiencer"
-- What it means to Label things, and how to catch your negative thinking when you start to put negative labels on people and events
-- Don't judge people because they are loved too; when we form judgments bout other religions, cultures and peoples, it diminished our peace of mind and generates anger.
-- Why you should meditate and all the great benefits that go with it. In this chapter Rob teaches us the easy way to meditate, where and what to do while meditating, such as focusing on breathing and being consistent with meditating as a habit.
— Accepting the present moment as it is and learning to merge into it, and realizing there is no past or future—just right now!
— Defining what more money actually means to you.
— The power of affirmations and how to make them work for you; turning an affirmation into a positive statement that focuses on helping other people
With Rob Cubbon’s book you will learn a lot about creating a new mindset that is positive, creative, and energetic. You will be able to gain better control of your thoughts by staying focused in the moment as it is happening; you will feel great about yourself when you stop judging, complaining and gossiping about others and realize that we are all “Spiritual Beings on a Human Journey.”
The concepts in Free Your Thoughts might not be new, but Rob presents them in a fresh and accessible manner that will overcome even the toughest of cynics. This is because the illustrative examples he uses are spot-on and part of our every day reality.
Self-help books tend to be filled with abstract notions, and more often than not, leave you out in the cold when it comes to actionable steps that work for individuals. i.e., are not strictly prescriptive. This is another way in which this book shines: yes, there are actionable sections in each chapter, but stated from a customizable approach. In other words, Rob discusses how you can incorporate each of his recommendations in a way that is unique to you in freeing your thoughts, and re-programming yourself for happiness.
Buy it. Read it. Happy transformation.

Rob, by his own admission, smoked too much, drank too much and took too many drugs. Fuelled by self doubt it was a never ending cycle.
Whilst you might not experience the extremes Rob has, you'll certainly recognise them. And through Rob's account of his travels around South East Asia, you'll discover the techniques that Rob has used to change his life for the better.
Rob is not some new age "spiritual guru", but a normal bloke discovering that a purposeful life is one with purpose.
A good read, with practical tips for self improvement.
There is practical advice in here on meditating, so if you are looking to get started, it will help you do so.The book also helps to keep you motivated thanks to the clear list of benefits the author has experienced from freeing his thoughts.
