Publishing a novel is an ambitious project. When I began, I had no idea it would take three years from start to finish to see the book in print. Yet, the actual journey began long before, as a ten-year-old, dreaming up stories in my head. ONE DAY I'll write them down, I thought.ONE DAY turned into one year, then five, and eventually, three decades, until one day, became THE DAY--the day I decided to set aside my self-doubts and write. Nine months later, I stared at the final words in astonishment. In trembling fear, I gave it to Holly Ridgeway, the head of my department at work, who finished the book in one night. Her initial encouragement gave me the confidence to show it to others. Close friends Darlene Hritz, Lynn Shirk and Stacy Helco were some of the first to read. Amazing, thrilling, spine-tingling futuristic story

If I could have called out of work with a good conscience to keep reading this book, I would have! I LOVED it. In MIND WAVES we find out about an unknown bureau in the government, the CMU or Cognitive Mind Unit where its members can control people with their minds. In this way, they can detect the bad guys and what their intentions to be, or infiltrate minds to gain information, cooperation or implanting thoughts. David Jenkins is one of these people and in his realm, he is way above average. These abilities are carried on the genes of select families so in his extended family there are many people like him, most working for the CMU or retired from it.
Our story is about David and a woman we find out he has admired from afar, Grace Woznisky. Thing is, Grace has been divorced from a cheater and goes very slowly in new relationships. David wants more and faster. But at the same time as she meets David, she has been texting with a man who calls himself “Brain” to her “Gigi.” What we soon find out is that not all is what it seems to be and BAM, just like that, the story takes off. I’m happy that most of the reviewers saw David for the man he was: totally enamored of Grace but still a mind hacker so found it hard to turn off his abilities. This is well-written futuristic fiction, with emphasis on fiction. Some lesser-star reviews tended to see it differently. To each his own, but for me this was a sensational read and I’m looking forward to the book about Geneva and Rolf. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

Readers, I am happy to introduce you to Amanda Uhl and her debut novel, Mind Waves. In this exciting fantasy and suspense romance, we are introduced to our heroine, Grace, a lost Midwestern gal from Cleveland. Saying goodbye to a corporate job and a husband in the same year had been difficult, but Grace is trying to move on. She lives alone with a witty parrot, and in addition to her own life, she must deal with a clingy, wilder sister who is about to be married, and a typical Mom who wants her daughters to be happy.

Grace decides to parlay her love of beach glass into an artistic business. As we all know, when you finally decide on a course of action, life can erupt. Soon, Grace is confronted by two handsome men and a government secret. The government has a Mind Control Unit, with “mind hackers” who can explore a person’s thoughts and rearrange or even erase them.

Being around two mind hackers leads to some amusing moments for Grace, “No fair, this is my daydream. Stay out.” “She would show mister mind control that he wasn’t the boss of her.”

But mind hacking can be deadly, especially when evil must be confronted.
“It’s Grace. A good portion of her mind has been wiped by our hacker.”

Can good prevail? Can the memories that link her to her lover be recovered?

Author Uhl gives us a well-written story with an exciting, smoothly paced plot and twists. The second half of the book is especially gripping and it was hard to put the book down. The usual mix of romance characters are enjoyable and paired with the art of mind hacking, Ms. Uhl has created an enthralling read. This is the first book in the Mind Hacker series and I know we will all look forward to the next book from this talented author.

When a friend recommended Mind Waves and described it as a paranormal romance, I have to admit I was a little hesitant about it, as my typical reading habits usually center more around the mystery/suspense genres. But, I will readily admit that my preconceptions about this book were totally wrong. This was a fantastic read!

Yes, there is a paranormal aspect to it. And the same can be said for the romance. But, the author has done a great job of not only finely balancing those aspects, but also expertly weaving in a little mystery, danger and suspense around characters that are identifiable and likeable. The well-designed, fast-paced storyline kept drawing me further and further in with each chapter. I found I couldn’t put the book down…I wanted to know what happened next! So, it should come as no surprise that I finished it in one sitting!

I congratulate the author on a job well done, and am looking forward to the next one in the series.

Recently divorced Grace, single and hopeful, is an artist who hasn’t the best of luck with men but is determined to put herself out there in the dating world. The Ohio setting by the Great Lakes is beautifully described and engaging. When Grace meets David, her life changes, although she is trying to figure out whether it is for the good or the bad. This terrific paranormal romantic suspense will keep you turning the pages to discover the truth.
The author Amanda Uhl is a creative and imaginative writer. Mind Games will take the reader to another dimension. I’m looking forward to the second book as the story with David and Grace continues (I hope).

Love. Love. Love this book. It is well written and very exciting to read. Each page of this book makes the reader anticipate turning the page to figure out more about the main character and the mysterious circumstances bringing David and Grace together. I found myself falling in love with its well-developed characters & intriguing plot.

This unique story finds Grace trying to find work as she has bills to pay since after divorce. She got a chance to bid for a big project that would get her through several months. Meeting David adds relief with a job offer and at the same time tension to her life. Each encounter was so well devised it made my heart flutter every time. Things get complicated when a diabolical man with a fiendish plan puts Grace in danger.

I am eager to see where Amanda Uhl takes the Mind Hacker series and I highly recommend this novel to lovers of Paranormal Romance.

Over all, I liked this story. It had the laments a romance requires bu David appears as though he’s a stalker like the man he chases. It’s obvious he doesn’t like to share, even down to pushing Grace away from him.
But, the formatting bothered me. Yes, it’s a stupid little thing, but I like clear chapter starts. The chapter number went straight into the chapter and it got annoying.
A few sentences weren’t formed correctly and it made me stop and reread - this slowed the pace quite a bit.
I think with another quick edit and formatting, it would be a better read.
