There are several listings of this book here on Amazon.They all have a publication date of 1990 ,some are Hard Cover and others are Soft Cover.As far as I can tell they are all the same ;though the prices are very different.I have a soft cover version and it is excellent in quality, printing and construction.It is profusely illustrated ,with all illustrations in B & W.
The author is a psychologist and has been interested in Optical Illusions for virtually all his life.If you are interested in such illusions;and want to take a deeper look into this fascinating world,than simply being entertained ,this book has excellent text and provides excellent explanations of how the mind and the eye work together in producing the effect the artist has created.
The book starts off with a Portrait of the Psychologist as a young artist as he tells how he became interested and made drawings as a youth,and continued his study and interest throughout his life.The drawings are presented in 9 categories; D.Figure- Ground Ambiguities
E.Figure -ground Impossibilities
F.depth Impossibilities
G.Pictorical Se-f-References

I.Transmorggrifications
I realize this all sounds confusing,but it is fairly simple to understand and anyone who is a fan of Illusions and has had an interest in the background of these Illusions,will find this a very different book on the subject.They will also be very familiar with many of the illusions presented.
The book has an extensive appendix ,detailing Notes .These notes will be a treasure-trove of other books,papers,etc.,for anyone who wants to delve further in the subject.Also included is a detailed Index.

A few fantastic black and white ambiguous figures, and text by a scientist. Also some word, pun, and image play. Fun stuff. His art has been reproduced in many collections of optical art. Here you have it with his commentary.
