I looked at all of Mindshift's different bags including a couple recently released. I wanted just one bag that I could use on the mountain yet didn't look too obnoxious if I wanted to take my gear around town. So I opted for the biggest model they had, the rotation180 Professional. Then I started looking at accessories. I knew I could use all of them: tripod holder, top cover, camera insert and extra straps which they carried as a kit for $140. Separately they are $156 but if you get the Pro Deluxe they end up only costing you $110. So if I don't use everything consider it a bonus but I'm finding I'll use them all.
The bag is built very well. It looks like it only comes in one color but it would be my first choice, the green and black looks rich yet subtle making it less noticeable. I still need to get a hydration reservoir but here's what I have loaded into it so far:
In the rotation pouch: Nikon D810 with 28-300 lens, Extra batteries, Filters: Lee Big Stopper (10 Stop), 2 stop gradient, Lee holder
In the camera insert (still room for another lens or two): 14-28 wide angle lens, Two Nikon Flashes, Extra batteries, remote shutter release
In the top: Poncho and first aid kit in one pocket: Compass, emergency essentials, leatherman, Garmin GPS, headlamp in case It gets dark
Back pocket: Jacket, Gaiters
Small side pocket: Gloves, Hat, rain cover
The tripod can be connected to the back of the backpack or for quick access use the straps to hang it from the side.
Some things I don't care for:
The rubber strap used to hold one end of the tripod to the side of the pack when carrying it at your side. Because it is somewhat behind you and not easy to wrap around the tripod legs it can be a pain to hook up.
Another issue like most backpacks the pocket on the belt isn't very useful. Nothing I have fits in it like iPhone, GPS, wallet. It should be something you want quick access to.
The rain cover is great to have but connecting around the opening where the rotation pouch comes out isn't all that great. It hooks to the pack with Velcro straps. I found a video online that shows how they suggest putting it on which was inside where it is nice and dry and they had removed the rotation pouch. More than likely you'll be out in the elements and then need to put it on, it won't be that simple. But you should be able to get it on enough to protect the bag and we don't go out in the rain that often.
A comparable backpack is FStop but I opted for this one due to the rotation pouch.
Hopefully this will ease my organization tension for sometime but I love the bag for all around use. I recommend getting the deluxe as it comes with very useful options and you save about $50.
