The guiding plot for this book is started by the murder of an instructor of the academy. Seen as potentially involved in the murder Ebon seeks to find the murderer while avoiding accusation to himself. This novel while deeply set in the fantasy realms contain aspects of a mystery novel. As the investigation deepens the list of suspects grows it becomes increasingly more difficult to predict the direction this story will go.
I enjoyed this book very much. I look forward to the continued adventures of Ebon and the greater storyy that is the Underrealm.
Additionally, there's some very strong mystery elements in this book, and it's a delightful blending of genres. If you like mystery or fantasy, this is definitely something to take a peek at.
Robinson does an amazing job of sucking his readers into the story; I felt that I was right there with Ebon, Theren and Kalem. And Mako has become one of the greatest characters in these books.....dark, mysterious and a bit of a comedian. Although he doesn't play a huge role he's still become one of my favorites. Readers will also see a different side of Xain than in the first Underrealm books. I'm anxious to see where the next pages will take us!
Mako makes this book something special. While he was a little odd in the first book, he's an amazing character in this one and I can't wait to see more of him in the future.
