Sam is a devoted and somewhat "overly protective" husband and father. He loves his wife and daughter more than anything else in life, and gives them everything they could wish for. Kara wants another child, but Simon doesn't. He treats her differently now....as though she were a fragile flower that he is afraid will break if not handled carefully. Gone are the days of their "spontaneous, carnal, sexual interludes," and Kara misses that dreadfully. She thinks that Simon doesn't find her attractive anymore, and blames it on the few extra pounds of "baby weight" she can't seem to shed. Simon is still romantic and gentle in their lovemaking....but that's not what she wants. She misses her "possessive caveman" and wants him back again. What she doesn't realize is that Simon is still as hot for her as he ever was, but is restraining himself and his wild desire to ravish her the way he used to. Simon loves Kara deeply, and watching her endure a painful labor was devastating to him. And the usual round of colic, teething, and many sleepless nights that wore her down and stole her energy was the final straw for him. He doesn't think he can take seeing her go through any of that ever again.
Obviously, these two need to work through their feelings about the possibility of increasing the size of their little family. And when that opportunity arises, in a totally unexpected form, their Christmas becomes extra special in a way they could not possibly have anticipated.
I would definitely recommend this book for those who (like me) require a Happily Ever After in their romance stories. While this is a stand-alone book, reading the first book in this series would really help readers better understand the background of the main characters, giving them a better appreciation for the story.
