Sturdy cardboard. Easy to put together for both my 10 and 7 year olds (both boys). Bought also enemy foe one and survival item one. They have been working on these 3 boxes before and after school - TOGETHER - in harmony. Even Legos hasn't brought this much peace in my household - and the LOVE Legos. One box give them a lot to do but 3 boxes - more than plenty for their imaginary play. It may seem pricey to buy for a PAPER product/toy, but the kids love them and are very happy doing them and actually playing with them. Much cheaper than legos and more variation for play than a lego kit. A GREAT gift for those Minecraft fans! Also gave the same kit to my nephew for his 7th b-day and he too loves it!

This fun paper kit got my 7-year-old to step away from the computer and engage in some following directions. The pieces are very cleverly designed and fit together perfectly. The poking tabs into slots on the bent corners is a little beyond my son's dexterity level, but the instructions wisely told him to have an adult help him. And I became a hero for 5 minutes :-)
The resulting paper creatures are very true to what they look like in minecraft, down to the ocelot.
Lots of fun to make and display. My son doesn't really play with them much after having built them, but they seem sturdy enough to be able to put up with it if he did. It is easy to remove the paper pieces because the paper is pre-scored--which makes a huge difference--no scissors needed.

Cheap way to make goody bag stuffers for a Minecraft party

My 7 year old was able to manage making most of these paper critters, once he figured out which way to fold the tabs and how to tuck them in, etc. Happily, you don't need to cut out each one. They are pre-punched cardstock that you simply push out. If you are careful, no tape is required.

Giving it four stars because less dexterous and patient children will probably abandon their efforts after 2 or 3 animals. The sheep and ocelot are particularly challenging. The cow and pig are easy, and the chicken falls somewhere in between. There are also several grass blocks.

We bought the set to serve as goody bag stuffers for a Minecraft-themed birthday party, and they were good for that - very inexpensive, not too time-consuming to make, and the kids really liked them.

Wasn't What I Expected

Just after Christmas, my grandkids wanted Minecraft plastic or stuffed toy characters, and they were all sold out everywhere I looked. I saw these online and made the erroneous assumption that we were getting a set of cardboard animals that were ready to play with. When we opened them, I saw that they were basically paper dolls that needed a lot of work to assemble. My grandkids, ages 5 and 6, were nowhere near capable of putting these together. There were many little pieces that needed to be punched out of the pages and assembled. Then the tiny parts that you assembled had to be assembled into one larger animal. And so on and so on. There were lots of animals. I gave up after putting together a few of them and losing some of the smaller parts. It was messy and difficult. Some of the assembled animals fell apart immediately and had to be taped. I wouldn't buy this again. But if you buy it, be prepared to either do the assembling yourself, or else buy it for older kids. Certainly isn't possible for a 6-year-old to assemble these.
I actually purchased my first product from Toys R Us and threw it away after trying to assemble, and returned the one I ordered on Amazon. This in no way reflects on the seller, who got the package mailed quickly and in good condition.

I purchased this set to use as decorations and giveaways for my son's Minecraft themed birthday party. They were very popular with the guests and drew lots of "oohs" and "ahhhhs". I even had several parents ask where I bought them from. My boys were able to help me put them together and it provided for some very pleasant mommy-sons bonding time. This product is made of sturdy card stock and the grass blocks are large enough to hold small candies, toys, stickers, etc. A few tips for assembly: be sure to really fold and press down hard along the score lines to help make the figures look crisp when assembled, and for the mobs, be sure to use a toothpick or sharp pencil tip to open up slots before inserting parts. I highly recommend this product. Happy assembling!

I waffled over whether it was worth the money to buy this instead of trying to find a printable, but it was SO WORTH IT. Good-quality paperstock, pre-cut means punching out instead of trying to do it all with scissors, and the tabs are really very well designed so the finished product holds together well. I got two packages of these for my daughter's 8th birthday party and my kids are STILL playing with them 48 hours later. 4yo is old enough to punch out the shapes, 8yo is old enough to do most of the figures with occasional help. And I don't even mind being asked to help because there's something strangely fun about these :-)
