Use this food grade mineral oil to maintain and restore your wood and bamboo cutting boards, butcher blocks and other wood products in the kitchen. Our oil is made from the pure USP grade white mineral oil that is enriched with vitamin E for added shelf stability and wood absorption. Not all mineral oil is food safe, mineral oil comes in multiple grades that is based on the refinement process. The lowest and least expensive grades are used for commercial and industrial equipment while the top quality grades are for medicine, food and cosmetics. Lower grade mineral oil is classified by the world health organization as a known carcinogen, while refined mineral oil is not. Our food grade mineral oil is safe for human use and is of an exceptionally refined grade that is colorless, odorless and has no taste. Directions for use: Every 3 to 4 weeks, apply a generous coat of mineral oil evenly over the entire surface of the cutting board or countertop. Make sure you oil the sides of the board as well. Use back of knife (not towel) to spread oil, but do not wipe off excess, in order for oil to absorb. Let sit for at least 4 hours or overnight if possible, so oil can penetrate completely into wood. A properly oiled board should appear wet and hydrated. For thicker cutting boards or butcher blocks, repeat this process on underside of board. To season a new board, repeat this process 3 to 4 times until surface is ready for use.

After learning my lesson, I used this product on all of my wooden cooking utensils and on my large and medium cutting boards. I soaked them all, per the instructions overnight and laid them on a large baking sheet so I wouldn't stain my countertop. Laying them on a towel would've soaked up the oil before the wood could absorb it.The next morning, all the utensils and boards looked brand new. The oil was evenly absorbed across all the surfaces. No odd staining of any kind. Best of all, no odors or food contamination afterward of any sort - as advertised.
The only con was in the instructions. The directions say to "use back of the knife" which first confused me since that would actually suggest the spine (the opposite of the cutting edge - see photo). I believe what they meant was to use the flat edge of a knife which works perfectly. (see photo) For cutting boards, the flat surface of a large carving knife works best as it get's the job done quickly and evenly. A cooking brush works really well for wooden utensils. Any brush should do.
Overall, the oil performed as advertised and I will recommend this product to friends. I will also be a repeat customer.
I have been using it like this:
Pour onto paper towel
Rub into every surface of wooden implement
Let absorb overnight (I put my cutting board on top of a plate because I didn't want to set it directly on my counter or table)
Recoat if especially dry or brand new
I think I'm going to use some on my gymnastic rings, and see how that goes. My spoons look amazing and I feel like it will help prevent excessive sweat absorption in my rings.
Fun fact, you can also use food grade mineral oil in skincare. It's great for doing the oil cleansing method or for putting on before bed to help maintain moisture in your face. For oil cleansing, just rinse your face with warm water, and then massage oil in for about 30-45 seconds. Then rinse! All clean! Mineral oil is just baby oil without fragrance added.
Firstly, I’ll say you absolutely want to purchase a food grade mineral oil. If you haven’t use a product like this in the past, most of the things you’ll treat will be associated with food.
Neatly, the application process is very simple. You’ll want to coat the utensil or item with a small amount of oil (and this bottle will last years, even with regular applications). Wipe off excess, let dry for 4ish hours, and again wipe down.
This product works great! It will protect and repair items. It will protect from premature cracking and splitting which is common for wood products. It will also repair cosmetically and restrain the wood to a nice finish.
I rate this a perfect 5/5!
Thank you for reading and rating my review!
I also ended up applying this to our large Ikea cutting board which made it look a lot better. The cutting board seems to not fade as quickly. I gather than the utensils get used in pasta water and various other food products which probably attributes to the fading.
A bit of a pain finding space for it to dry overnight that isn't laying against anything, but it works!
