This is broken up into 9 themed chapters, and, technically 101 titles are covered.
The titles tend to be humorous, in the case of Ain't That a Kick in the Head, 13 martial arts movies are covered but you will find that there is cross over in other chapters, the chopsocky Death Machines is under Covert Ops.
Chapter one mixes well knowns such as Miami Connection (it even aired on TCM!), Raw Force and Gymkata with obscurities such as Psycho Kickboxer.
Chapter two covers dystopian flicks such as Land of Doom, R.O.TO.R., Roller Blade, and Robo Vampire.
The third has women of action, Huster Squad, TNT Jackson, Firecracker, Alienator, Lady Terminator and Crocodile Fury are 5 out of 10 tiltes.
There are surprise in the next 7 chapters such as Rolling Vengeance, Parole Violators, Geteven (sic), Mr. No Legs, Death Warrior, Etc, and Chapter 8 covers 11 superhero movies, but one wonders just how Stunt Rock is a superhero movie. Fear not, the second of two late 1970s Captain America TVMs, the 1974 Wonder Woman TVM that did not lead to a teleserial, Pumaman (1980) two Lou Ferrigno movies share space with better knowns such as Superman IV The Quest for Peace and Batman and Robin.
S one might expect, the write ups are on the humorous side. In the case of Captain America II : Death Too Soon, even the paragraph on the source material and the one on earlier versions might at the very least cause one to smirk, as does the one that compares the TVM Captain America's arsenal to the Marvel Comics version, a shield of "extremely pliable, translucent plastic" is not as awe inspiring as one made of vibranium-steel.
Overall, a rollicking read.

It turns out we didn't know what we were missing. "Mine's Bigger Than Yours" offers a list of 100 of the wackiest films of the genre that goes way beyond the JCVD/Seagal mainstream standards (although both are included, fear not) to spotlight far more obscure films to hilarious effect.
The book shows how this is genre attracts its share of eccentrics. In more than one instance, some martial artist with a triple black belt in egomania decided that he needed to share (inflict) his skills on an unsuspecting movie public. No acting or writing experience – no film experience, whatsoever – no depth of human knowledge beyond what can be found between two slices of a knuckle sandwich, and what you get are some wild and unintentionally hilarious films.
The authors have found an unexpected comedic goldmine with the ludicrous plots of nearly every one of these films. They show a great eye for the absurd, and make revisiting these movies great fun, with such asides as:
"Old habits aren't as easy to shake as a booty.”
"She drops flattened lines as if she were in an English instructional video."
And possibly the most intriguing capsule summary of a movie’s selling points I’ve ever seen: "That's not all the movie has going for it. There are nude mud wrestling brawls, flying torpedo headbutts and irate white foreigners shaking down businessmen while yelling 'yellow sh*thead'."
I wonder if even the film-makers whose work is captured here gave as much creative thought to these films as the authors do here.
This is an impressive looking nicely designed and illustrated volume that makes an excellent collector's piece and reference. And there's enough substance here to keep you coming back for more (like pre-Covid Steven Seagal at the buffet).
All you need is here: title, year and whether or not its worth seeking out. Plus a pic or 2.
Would have been awesome if it had a few rare pics and the backs of the vhs boxes.
