This rail features excellent hardware throughout. The screws are excellent, and the mating between the rail and the proprietary Ruger mount on the Mini 14 rifle is superb. I found that the hardware stayed tight when tightened with the supplied Allen wrench -- I did not use or need Lock-Tight. I fired 200 rounds through the rifle after mounting this rail and it stayed nice and tight.
Another nice fact about this rail is that contrary to what some have written, I found it possible to remove the bolt from the Mini 14 rifle while field stripping without removing the rail. It is slightly more challenging, but not overly so. (In fact, now that I have done it a few times, no problem at all.) It is nice to not have to remove the rail and possibly (or possibly not) disturb the zero on your sight.
I have used this rail, and I have used the Burris rail. The hardware with the GG&G rail is noticeably better than the Burris. The Burris is a pain to mount on the Mini 14 while the GG&G can be attached and detached in a minute. Further, the Burris is good only for mounting scope rings. You can forget about just about any other Weaver/Picatinny accessory such as an EOTech red dot, for example. The Burris does not have enough real estate. (The Burris rail components have this big bump in the center that make it impossible to mount anything but scope rings.)
This is a quality piece of hardware that I recommend without reservation for the Mini 14 rifle. RJB.
This rail fits great on the Mini 14 but did not come with Locktite as others have mentioned. This is\was not in the description at the time I purchased this item.
Included in the package are the rail with 2 mounting bolts pre-attached, torx wrench and 2 loose mounting bolts that you will need to complete the installation. There will be no leftover parts if you install this correctly.
AFter installing, the rail does not budge. This is definitely solid and a good addition should you want a rail system that will fit on the proprietary Ruger scope mounts. What was Ruger thinking when they came up with that?
One item of note. If you mount this rail, you will not be able to use your iron sights. The rail alone will block your view. So buying "see through" scope mounts for this is a waste. You won't ever have to remove the rail for takedown and cleaning as it doesn't obstruct any part of those tasks.
A bit on the pricey side for what it is, but satisfied with the purchase overall. I would recommend for the Ruger Mini series.
It is also explained that two pins which are already installed in the lower surface of the rail serve to locate the rail on the rifle, by placing the rail in position so that the pins rest in the recoil-slots already machined by the Ruger factory on top of the action. (Also an easy thing..., but the pins offer only a small purchase of those slots if their purpose is to absorb recoil from the weapon....a 1/16" pin sitting in a 1/4" slot..??? But, this is not significant because this rifle does not have much recoil in 5.56/.223) It is the screw-heads which grip the Ruger ring slots that actually locate/mount the rail, and while those areas which grip are quite small...they appear barely-adequate, in my opinion. I would have preferred a more substantial "grip" onto the action.
Also, the already-mounted screws were so situated as to locate the rail slightly offset to the left. I used the supplied torx angle-wrench to back off those screws exactly one turn, which allowed the rail to be centered on the action, then installed the right-side screws and tightened them down. This method was actually quite simple and made for a good mount. My 4-star rating was due to the appearance of small stature of the pins and small area of "grip" of the screw heads, instead of well-machined matching-surfaces accommodating the original, factory, Ruger ring-mounts. However, the 4-screws-method is another way to skin-the-cat and this mount is so much superior to any other available method.
Enter the GG&G scope mount. This is solid, secure, and seemingly perfect for what I wanted it for. I needed a platform to mount my quick detach aimpoint or my Leupold scope (with Warne QD rings) and this fits the bill. I can hit my aimpoint with an open palm as hard as I can and it nor the rail budges at all. I have used blue threadlocker on the rail mounts screws to further "SHTF" proof it.
For cleaning, the rail is thin enough to remove the bolt, like another reviewer said. It takes a lot of patience and positioning to get the bolt out.
This rail will remain on my mini until the end of days, and I know it will last that long - a great feeling, no doubt.
