This tripod is Very Sturdy! It is a table top model, all aluminum, black anodized, Stainless Steel hardware. Standard 1/4-20 threaded holes and screws. The universal standard for camera tripods. The legs are tight and can be placed at any angle and remain there. Super machine work and finishing. Included is a hex key to tighten the cold shoe to whatever you are going to attach to the tripod.
Cons: the hex key will get lost. I would like to have seen a magnet embedded into one of the legs for a dedicated place to put the key so it won't get lost.
Black anodized. If you can do black, you can do any color. Where is red, blue, green, purple and any shade in between?
More options = more customers.
Pro's: You will always appreciate the quality of this tripod, long after you have forgotten the price.
BUCK UP and buy it!
I then tested this with another heavy (but lighter comparatively) lens -- the classic Canon 24-70mm zoom lens. This time the tripod held the camera perfectly upright when rotated ALL AROUND the base, even the empty areas between legs!
For the record, I also adjusted the ball head so the camera pointed up and down in addition to level, and the ball head held the camera firmly in place every time.
Check out the photos attached to this review to see. I will definitely be packing this in my camera backpack for times when a full tripod would be overkill or not allowed.
I couldn't find any other "tabletop tripod" that looked like it had the same level of quality and absolutely not for under $20. Sadly, from seeing my first shipped product, the black color is a thick, textured type of paint, not anodized. I haven't seen how easily it is to chip off, but I can imagine a few scratches are guaranteed.
Simple design, twist to switch between full flat angle or taller angle (can twist in any direction)
Rubber feet cover all around the tips, solidly screwed in and not just glued
Slots in the legs can be used to tie or tape to any object for creative positions
1/4 inch screw holes on each leg!
Black paint looks like it can chip fairly easily
Tightening the tension on the legs is finicky; the hex screw holes have extra notches in the corners that make it feel loose to tighten and it's very difficult to get each leg to match in smoothness
The legs don't stop in the center; they overextend so you have to purposely close them in such a way that they're not overlapping
As for the ball head, I don't care about it but it looks like great quality too. It feels very solid and the tightening knob is ratchet-able. The mounting plate is only held by friction of the side so as soon as you loosen it, it can fall out.
