I just bought and received this new generation mini amp yesterday, and I am completely pleased with this plug direct to your electric guitar amp without cord. It's my second ampuplugnplay mini amp. The second amp I still have that I bought about three years ago and still works like when I bought it. This model has better features clean mode for rhythm and clean playing and the overdrive mode for blues, metal and rock guitar. The switch and 1/4 plug seems pretty sturdy built but common sense tells you make sure you don't bump into things with it on your guitar. I like the headphone input switch in case someone is sleeping your playing is private to your ears. But the speaker on is still ok to play without neighbors knocking on your door to turn it down especially if you live in an apartment - it's ideal amp to have, meaning, it's loud enough for you and the people you are playing to in a smaller environment. It's convenient because you don't need to connect to a regular amp. The mini amp is there by pluging to your amp right away even outdoors like in a park. The main thing is I like the sound from this amp it is no Fender Twin or Marshal but it's sure nice to have and I like the features of it, too.
I have been playing off and on since the '70s and and bought many effect pedals from early on not to mention guitars and amps but having this little amp is one of my best guitar accessory purchases I have made.
The MP3 I will have to wait I understand you play along with the recorded music which is great, but I don't have access to a MP3 right now sounds like another good feature to have.

Received my Ampuplugandplay and tried it out. Came with its own 9 vlt. battery. Very simple operation. Plugged it in, turned it on, sounded fine on my Tele. Suprizingly good volume, clean and crunch. I actually purchased the Plug and Play to practice my Ibanez SGR Bass without waking the kids. Tried it out on the bass, however, the 1/4 jack did not fit into the front/angled output on my bass. So, great little practice amp IF you have a end pin jack.

This is a great little amp. When I want to practice guitar with some effects pedals, I no longer have to sit in my room next to the big amp on the floor. I can setup my effects boxes and pedals outside on the patio, plug this little amp in the end of my effects, and play. Headphone jack is great, too. I can play at night now.

A must-have for anyone who has an electric guitar or portable effects.

Ok at first I was skeptical but here are some pros and cons.

PROS:
-MID Switch = Accoustic
-FAR Switch = Rock
-Plug Easily and can connect to mp3 or headphones. Or if you're like me and I got a headphone divider, I can connect my mp3/guitar/headphone for awesome jamming.
-Don't need headphones to play
-Small & Powerfull

CONS:
-9V battery to use (whoever has any lying around)
-No directions on how to use, by mistake I noticed the Far switch was for rock songs, I would of rated this a 2-3 if I didn't know this could play rock.

I was excited to receive this little amp, but was quickly disappointed that it would not play in normal mode....only in the distortion setting. I tried the switch numerous times and could feel the clicks as it went from each setting but alas it would not play normal (which is what I wanted it for) :(
Had to send it back...

This amp sounds like a late 70's am fm pocket 9volt radio. I dont even like to practice with it because it sounds so bad i cant tell if i am playing the notes right. Ive used it two times in a month . Also if you have a side mount guitar input the weight of it makes it fall out all the time. Its really cumbersome to play with it because you always have to be aware of your position with it plugged in so you dont bump it and pull it loose. I wish i would have bypassed this and bought a small practice amp in the first place.

In line with some of the other reviews, this ~could~ be considered a piece of junk. If your goal is to perform, even for a very small audience, you want a real guitar amp, not this thing. But this does have its place. Sometimes, I like to sit out in the backyard, strumming a guitar. It's not worth the bother to haul the amp outside and dig out a very long extension cord. But this only weighs few ounces, so it's easy to handle. Since it's nowhere near as loud as a "proper" amp, the neighbors aren't disturbed. And even though the sound quality is just middling, it's good enough for my practice session.

works well if you plug in a head set, very portable, but quality of sound without headset. well sounds more like a kids toy than a quality accessory, ,but for stealth playing I still like this, biggest complaint tho is it runs down the batteries even when its switched off , so I have to remove when done playing,,, update I bought the vox version, cost more but compact good sound ,( no external speaker built in) have to use headphone or plug in external speaker
