I installed one on my pontoon boat a few years back. I also installed the co-pilot so I can control it from anywhere In the boat. It is really awesome to be able to sit in the captain seat or a lounger and still drive the boat, particularly if I want to let a couple of kids fish the bow. Now, I am installing a fishfinder on the bow and here is the rub. The shaft of the TM has to travel its length through the motor collar, so I can not nylon wire tie the sensor wire to the shaft. It might get a little sloppy and get pinched or cut. So, consider this when buying. There are alternatives. However, I have really enjoyed this model.

The PowerDrive V2 is clearly a product designed by people who do not fish. The motor is tremendously difficult to stow and deploy. The mechanism is far worse than traditional spring-loaded mechanisms with a rope attached. Furthermore, the prop is driven by a "drive pin" that will not break if the prop comes in to contact with underwater obstructions. Instead, the torque will be delivered to the armature, and warp the shaft. Then you have to replace the armature. A traditional shear pin would break and save the motor. The foot pedal is impossible to operate, as turning left or right requires you to move all your weight forward first. Then to engage the motor you have to shift your weight back to the momentary switch at the back/bottom of the pedal. As soon as you do, the direction will shift. The latest problem I have found is that after replacing the armature and brushes (again) the motor will not start at high speeds without cutting out. I have to start at slow speeds and slowly increase the speed to make it work. The only positive about this motor is the co-pilot. It will allow you to operate the motor remotely. Apart from the co-pilot, the entire motor is a design nightmare and should be avoided. My new bumper sticker: "Minn Kota: turning ordinary people into master mechanics."
