THEN, I got the gps ipilot upgrade. It is difficult to convey just how impressed I am with this technology, and how much it will change/improve my fishing game. It's essentially like having an invisible person with me who pilots and positions the boat perfectly, while I fish. With spotlock the riptide positions the boat far better then I ever could, regardless of the method of control. No fighting wind and current anymore, just pick a spot, hit the anchor button and start fishing. The motor automatically swings the bow into the wind and the stern will very slowly "scan" back and forth, essentially allowing me to scan more with my sonar. I can pay attention to the sonar and my lines, vs. what the boat is doing. It allows both myself AND my passenger to spend more effective time with our lines in the water, rather then controlling the boat. It is hands down the best tool for fishing I have, other then the boat itself. The advanced autopilot allows me to set a course and troll, and I can play with the speed and direction along the away to change my presentation. All the while the motor making tiny, precise adjustments to keep me on my chosen bearing, adjusting for wind and current. All of this results in LESS battery usage, as the computer is far more efficient then I could ever be. I haven't even tried the tracking feature yet. The spotlock and AAP are worth it alone. You can actually focus on the FISHING, not boat control.
If you are thinking about getting a Minn Kota with ipilot, or already have one without it and thinking about upgrading, stop thinking and just do it. You won't regret it.
I also used the quick release bracket for easy removal of trolling motor and it was very easy to mount the motor using the quick release bracket.
