It was great why it was working. Moved my 10ft johnboat so fast I put up a wake. unfortunately after only one fishing trip it started shorting out. I think it's been over engineered. I think the whole system of controlling the voltage for efficient battery power usage is too complicated. My last 36lb thrust minn kota trolling motor is over ten years old and still works, I just wanted a more powerful one. I returned this one, but i still plan on purchasing another minn kota, just not the one with the battery life extender system.

I have a 15 ft tri hull fiberglass. Its a heavy boat. This trolling motor worked great. The digital battery readout worked great also. I'm so glad I got this. This was the first and only time I have used it and its all they said it would be if anything changes I will modify this but I have had two other Minn Kota's and they worked as expected I don't foresee any problems with this one.

The Endura MAX 55 moves my 10', approx.110-lb, dinghy (with me at 230 lbs. and a 52-lb battery aboard) around our northern VT lake just fine. I don't set any speed records with this motor, but at least I can now beat out my buddy paddling his kayak (which I couldn't do with my earlier, less powerful electric motor). When needed, this new motor operates at v-e-e-e-e-r-y low speed (in both forward and reverse directions) to position my boat exactly where I want it for fishing or near-shoreline lake-bottom viewing purposes. It's just wonderful to now move around the lake SO QUIETLY, especially compared to when I operated my ancient low-HP, 2-cycle gas boat motor that died recently. No regrets on the latter's passing.
.
This motor is electrically very efficient. I get several hours of "cruising" on a fully charged 12V deep-cycle marine battery. The charge-level indicator built into the motor itself keeps me confident that I'm not going to run out of juice in the middle of the lake.

Love it!

I just purchased this Minn Kota Endura MAX 55 and I must say that I really like this motor. I previously owned a Minn Kota Endura C2 55, which was a really nice motor...but, this past spring I purchased a new boat which is twice as heavy as my previous boat. With the Minn Kota Endura, this first trip out I was very disappointed by how long my battery lasted. This Minn Kota MAX is great with battery juice. I made it 3 times as far with the MAX as I did with my Endura C2 55 (with the same weight, wind and on the same lake with the same currents). I really like how there isn't just 5 preset speeds and the built in battery meter is a nice feature too. Again, I've only had it out on one trip, but I must say that I'm really impressed!

We are using this motor on an Intex Excursion 5 inflatable boat. Not sure if it's sized properly, please check before deciding on this motor.

Our configuration today was two adults (totaling about 320 lbs), and 2 kids (totaling about 80 lbs), this motor (about 50 lbs), large tackle box (maybe 20 lbs), battery in battery box (maybe 25 lbs), and a bag of other misc stuff (food, water, etc, maybe 10 lbs). So somewhere around 500lbs of stuff.

Cruising at 30% forward on the motor handle yielded 1.5 mph. Cruising at full 100% forward yielded 3.5 mph. I measured using a map/navigation app on my cell phone. We cruised around the lake for about 2 hours, mostly at 30% with maybe 10 minutes total of random bursts to 100% for fun. Batteries were still showing full charge on the Minn Kota battery box as well as on the motor's battery gauge. I am impressed--faster then I thought it would be and way less energy use then I expected. (although this is my first trolling motor so I don't have anything to compare to)

My battery configuration is kinda odd.... I have qty 4 6V 12Ah batteries in a parallel/series configuration. So It gives be 12v output and I believe it would give 24Ah capacity (not totally sure on this one). I had these lying around from a UPS battery replacement project that never happened. I was planning to get a 100Ah battery but I may keep this rig for a while as it's working better then I expected.

The motor and mount is very easy to adjust after it is mounted on the stern. Moving it up and down, tilting it, etc, is super easy. Also tightening/loosening the wingnut that holds the motor position when you have to take your hand off the handle is easy to get at and operate.

My boat is a Sea Eagle 124SMB. With two people and some extra stuff on board, trying to go upstream on the Deschutes River in Oregon takes some power. In spring and early summer, the current is pretty strong...my "guesstimate" is around 5-6 knots. The original motor I had, a Minn Kota Endura 40, would power the boat "OK" most of the time, but would run both of my batteries down in less than two hours. At some points on the river, it would barely make any progress at all.
The Endura Max 55 has all the power I need! And, the electronics it carries make the batteries last more than twice as long, even when running between 75 and 100%. This motor gets the boat really going and has plenty of power. My two batteries are not the same size, and starting with the larger one, I can run well over 1 1/2 hours with almost no voltage drop. It's amazing what they have accomplished with this motor, and it''s WELL WORTH the extra money over the E-40.
The Sea Eagle 124SMB is a flat bottomed boat and has lots of drag in the water. It also is highly effected by strong winds. The Endura MAX 55 is great for moving this boat through the water and instantly correcting for wind movement. It's a factor of my boat, but be prepared to be "at the helm" continuously with this motor, because it will easily power the boat against the current (current against the boat plus the motor at 75% moving the boat at about 5 knots, means the motor is actually moving the boat at about 10-12 knots!) and can get going in the wrong direction quickly.
Running the motor at around 50% downstream makes it easy to control without using the paddles at all, and can get you home in short order.
This is a great product and I would highly recommend it if you're thinking about an electric trolling motor for any application. It runs on 12 volts instead of 24, and yet has plenty of power and makes the battery last longer. Who could ask for more??
