This Minoura mount is by far the best phone mount I've been able to find. It appears to be manufactured better and stronger than the others. Even so, and based on my unfortunate experience, I'd still have the phone in a very protective case prior to inserting it into a handlebar mount such as this. And, pay attention to the fastening device...make sure you hear the "click" when you close the lever.
Just as info: I'm currently using a Droid Razr in a Otterbox Commuter case. This phone case combination is a perfect fit in the Minoura handlebar mount.
I have used it a lot with an iPod and an iPhone.
Works like a charm. As I recall, the device never fell out even over gnarly bumpy street conditions.
I am a pretty extreme user. I take my bike through the rain, through sandy conditions, etc and the only thing i noticed was that the release mechanism was sticky sometimes especially after a rain.
One day it stopped working and i noticed that the bottom left corner of the back had broken off and therefore the spring mechanism stopped working.
so i started putting my device in my handlebar bag. that's a pain when you've got an ipod because you have to lock the ipod and you have to grab it and hold it to change the volume of the song. i preferred to have the ipod on my handlebars where I can adjust the volume with one finger.
after having the damaged unit on my handlebars for months i came up with the idea of contacting the company directly and asking about the warranty or whatever.
i sent them a picture. they said it was obvious that the gadget was broken by user error and not by manufacturing defect.
but here's the cool part: THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE TOP PART and ship it to me FREE. i still have the mount which works great. so they're sending me the top part that grips your device. talk about a cool company!
and that's my story.
That said, this thing is the only durable mount, (other than the lifeproof case bike mount, that needs the lifeproof case) that I would recommend to anyone with a road bike. Mountain and city bikes often have shocks that provide mounts a nice preventative to road resistance such as high-speed potholes and dips.
I've done some 70 mi with this piece and havent had any issues; now have purchased for wife, friends, mother and will continue to get these as gifts for biker friends.
Only real drawback is rainy days - you'll have to put your mount in a plastic bag, making for no music on the ride.
To the person who gave it 1 star because it wouldn't fit with his Otterbox, how is that any fault of the Minoura?
In the description, it doesn't say anything about fitament with a case, especially an ugly useless Otterbox.

great for road biking. it holds my iphone safely. It gives me easy access to it. It gives me enough room to leave my hard shell case on. I really like this brand.Published 17 months ago by regular customer
Great phone holder for the iPhone4s. 22-29mm is a small size diameter handlebar that you might find on a mountain bike. Road bike dropout handlebars are the bigger size. Read morePublished 18 months ago by Lester Whitacre
