The story of a Greenbrier County, West Virginia, family in which a grandfather and his granddaughter share a special ability -- they call it a gift -- that enables them to briefly witness each year a miraculous gathering in the sky. What they see begins at precisely one minute past Christmas and fills them with as much relief as it does wonder. But they worry that the "gift" -- which they cannot reveal to anyone else -- will die with them because it has been passed to no other relative for forty-four years.

About the Author

Dr. George T. Arnold is a professor emeritus in the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall University. He is the author of scores of professional and academic articles, and his communications skills textbook/resource book, Media Writer's Handbook, a guide to common writing and editing problems, is in its sixth edition with McGraw-Hill and has been used at more than 300 colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. He has bachelor's and master's degrees from Marshall University and a Ph.D. from Ohio University. Regina Jeffers has worn many hats over her lifetime: daughter, student, military brat, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, tax preparer, journalist, choreographer, Broadway dancer, theatre director, history buff, grant writer, media literacy consultant, and award-winning author. Living outside of Charlotte, NC, Jeffers writes novels that take the ordinary and adds a bit of mayhem, while mastering tension in her own life with a bit of gardening and the exuberance of her “grand joys.”

What a marvelous story! It absolutely brings the magic of Christmas to the reader. I'm imagining my children and their delight at hearing this tale-I'm also imagining them staying up as late as they can on Christmas just to see if they might also have "the gift". Thanks to both authors for weaving this intriguing novella that I hope it endures for generations

Unique Christmas story children and adults will love

I really enjoyed this short story. My two children are old enough this year that I look forward to reading it to them and am sure it will be a Christmas tradition. Amid all the rotten news anymore, this is a nice pick-me-up for me and inspirational for our children. Two thumbs up - Arnold does a nice job with this and his other short stories.

Dr. George Arnold was one my professors during my days as a journalism student at Marshall University, and he was our go-to source for information on all things related to grammar. But more than that, his insights into the complexities of accurately and fairly reporting the news were invaluable. Now, he's taken to applying a different sort of insight toward something personal and touching, and, while not specific to West Virginia, it still retains a sort of Appalachian sensibility unique to the area. I'd like to see more of Dr. Arnold's fiction...wonder if there's a novel in the works?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am partial though since I know the author. His granddaughter and my daughter were best friends as children. I also enjoyed the setting, since I live in West Virginia. Great job, George!!

Wow what a wonderful feel good Christmas story! My first impression is that I would love to read this story to my grandchildren and I think it would be a great story to read to your children on Christmas Day! It is short enough to read in one day.

The story is about one families gift that only gets passed on every once in a while. The family business is growing and selling trees. Specifically Christmas trees and a miracle that happens one minute passed midnight. A definite must read for the season and I believe it will become a yearly event.

I won this book and am giving it an Honest review.
