Don't let the name mislead you...it is still a liquid...i had expected a gel to have consistency more like aloe or shower gel, but this is actually significantly runnier than i expected. (Regardless, it works great, i just expected something thicker from the name).
I took a cloth, rubbed it on....waited 10 min and rubbed off excess....results looked great, even where i didn't manage to complete sand away the old finish.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any refinishing project.
The color is warm, a little pinkish. It looks like a warm maple color even on the pine.
Before applying, I sanded the edges of the previously stained area with fine grit sandpaper to eliminate the "lip" created by the existing stain. I applied the stain with a bristle brush, allowed to dry for about 10 minutes, and used mineral spirits to remove the excess. The application was problem-free, with no dripping or smearing.
The new stain dried much darker than the existing stain. The existing stain (same brand/color) had been on the door for less than a year, and seemed to have faded significantly over the course of that time. It seems like this could indicate that the stain doesn't hold up too well to weather, although, in fairness, there was no topcoat used on either the old or the new stain.

I found that the gel product tended to leave clumps in the corners and prefer the regular stain.Published 2 months ago by Jon Way
