The first thing that made me very nervous about this finishing wax was the huge warning label that read "Contains solvents which can cause permanent brain and nervous system damage". This freaked me out and I used this on my balcony, kept it far from my face and tried not to breathe while using the product. If you've ever used it this way, you know it's fairly hard to use. After I relaxed a little, I started to notice the difference in made on my furniture. The beautiful tiffany blue darkened subtly, evening out and smoothing the paint. After a day of drying, it really made a huge difference to my chalk painted side tables. I like that it doesn't give my side tables an overly shiny feel. I don't want it to look like painted laminate, I want it to look natural, and this finishing wax does that in spades.
This is also a huge quantity, the two side tables I used this on barely made a dent in the tin. I have plenty left for my future chalk painting endeavors. I have found chalk painting furniture to be a lot easier than any other paint and finishing wax makes it even easier. I think finishing wax makes using chalk paints even more forgiving than they already are, smoothing and evening out for that lovely finished look. I would recommend this for any new chalk painter. It's easy to use and give furniture a great and natural look.
Several months ago, I was given a solid oak dining room table that has been in the family for a few years. It has a satin to semi-gloss oil finish, but I prefer glossy finishes, but I don't like the "solid mirror" effect of gloss polyurethanes. I remembered that I had this wax, so I got it and opened the can, to find that the wax had shrunk a little bit and was now more of a solid wax, like the bars of paraffin wax you get for canning, instead of the paste consistency it had long ago. I filled a pot with some water, put this can of wax in it, and heated it a little on the stove to soften up. I applied some to the oak table, buffed it just a little, and like always, there was that soft, polished look. A nice clean shine, but not a thick glassy coating. Looks great, even though it's time for a new can of finishing wax. Real wood furniture is hard to come by nowadays without paying for a small fortune. This is a great product to keep it looking great and give it a little physical protection. Even an old sock does the trick for polishing.
I used this to add a slicker surface to my Boeshield protected cast iron table on my bandsaw. Smooth!
I also waxed my laminate island countertop. Slippery! Spills just wipe right off.
