Why PAI is the Best Activity Metric!
Mio is a pioneer in Heart Rate Technology, and we are now introducing a revolutionary new metric and app that makes sense of your heart rate data. pai is a free app and exclusive to Mio wearables.
It’s Meaningful: Other metrics such as steps provide limited insights into physical activity, as not all steps are created equal, and not all exercise involves steps. The most accurate way to assess the health benefits from activity is to analyze an individual’s heart rate data.
It’s Simple: The goal is to maintain a minimum score of 100 pai for maximum health benefits. pai makes sense of heart rate data.
It’s Personal: pai is calculated based on age, gender, resting heart rate and maximum heart rate. It is a personalized experience that makes the 100 pai goal and all pai calculations customized and accurate for each individual.
It’s Scientific: The Mio pai algorithm is founded upon data collected from the Hunt Health Study over a 20-year period involving 60,000 participants conducted by the Nobel Prize-winning Faculty of Medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Top customer reviews
There are plenty of devices out there that can be used to track your heart rate outside of the water, but this one of just a few that can track your heat rate in the water, under the right conditions, so it's pretty unique from that standpoint.
I only use the device to track heart rate. You turn on the heart rate function when you begin your workout. When you are done, you turn off the heart rate monitoring function and it becomes a fitness watch. If you leave the heart rate monitor on 24/7 the battery will only last a day. If you turn off the hesrt rate function, the battery will last for several weeks. I use it with the MioGo app. This watch will also interact with several other heart rate apps such as Endomondo and Polar beat. I tried several of them but I like the Mio Go app bear. The software is not as robust as what you get with Fitbit but it suits my needs.
It works great with the elliptical and a Concept 2 rowing machine. I sweat like crazy and my arms move vigorously but I have no problems.
The only problem I have is that sometimes tapping the device to turn on the backlight doesn’t work. I still give it 5 stars. I emailed Mio for assistance and I’m confident they will help me. (If not I’ll switch to 4 stars).
It’s revolutionized my stamina and endurance training. It takes the guesswork out of high intensity interval training. You know exactly when you reach your anaerobic threshold.
After using it a few times you get a feel for how much effort you need to reach a certain heart rate. It’s like cruise control for your heart. It’s cool.
Easy to use
Accuracy comparable to a strap monitor
Water and sweat resistant
Holds a charge for a long time unless you leave the heart rate function all day
Numbers are big, don't need your glasses to see
Battery not replaceable
It's big, may not fit small wrists
The Mio Alpha 2 gave me accurate real time display during my lifting. I'm most happy with that.
1> Buggy app. An hour into the workout, I switched out of the app to do something, came back, and lost an hours of my workout and had to start a new workout.
2> Strap size. I'm no he man muscle guy, and I'm right at the end of the strap. In fact, at the last holes, the hole spacing is wrong between the 2 pin clasp and strap lock down, and the 2 pins of the clasp stick out and snag everything. SO I wear one notch tighter, and no issue. The strap is so good, I dont notice it.
So far, for what I needed (real time HR) and continuous display, I'm most happy with it.
I'm on my second unit now. First one BT went out and was replaced under warranty. Second one now is randomly losing signal, and MIO on android shows 0 HR, while wrist unit shows 100.
Also seems to loose HR on certain arm exercises, and my displayed HR is dropped by like 50%,
software pretty sad too. a few more days guys...
