I ended up trying this assorted Abranet and I fell in love.
Although I was satisfied and would like to highly recommend
it to anybody, I thought that the prices of Abranet is rather
too high. (That is the reason why I gave only four stars.)
Luckily, however, I found that another vendor (Pro-Source Center)
is selling Abranet/Autonet at much lower prices.
It seems that the same or similar products are sold in the
automotive refinishing industry not as Abranet but as Autonet.
However, Autonet discs are about half the price of the Amazon's
Abranet discs even including extra shipping cost from the vendor.
Autonet is sold in boxes of 50 discs at around $23 compared to
about $13 per 10 discs from Amazon. (I guess it may be because
the car repair market is way bigger than the woodworking market.)
I am not 100% sure whether there exist quality difference between
Autonet and Abranet, but I and my woodworking club members are
very happy to use Autonet for our woodworking projects at half the
If you are interested, take a look at the Pro-Source Center site.
PS: I just found out that Autonet is now also sold at Amazon but a
bit more expensive than at Pro-Source Center.
The solution? Use the abranet pads that go between the sander and the abrasive. I found out the hard way.
Bottom line: These abrasives work very well, last a long time, as they are a mesh the dust removal through my sander is almost total. What does get clogged in the pad just remove it from the hook and loop and shake it out and good as new.
I don't even care if these are expensive they work better than anything I have ever used and if you go up through the grits systematically as you should they last a very long time compared to generic sandpaper. I'm sold on the quality of this product I recommend it for both hand sanding and power sanding both are exceptional.
But, anyway, these are the best for a virtually dustless sand-a-thon inside a home. Quite frankly, there was little - if any - dust around (all got sucked into the vac for once) due to the design of the net and the porosity of the backing. It also left a beautiful satin finish when I was done. I've used a variety of Corian "refinishing kits" and this did a far better job than those foam backed discs. I'm sold.
Attached to a good vacuum (I personally have a whole Festool setup - LOVE IT) there is NO, I mean, NO dust left on your project. Woodworking is my career, so I try to be as mindful of the health aspects of the profession as much as possible. Avoiding fine particulate dust is key in dodging some of the long term respiratory effects of what we do. Therefore, a disc that allows direct access for the dust to enter it's intended extraction on the tool, is much welcomed in my shop. I can't say enough good things about Abranet, it's the only disc I use anymore.
