1st replacement Flash completely stopped working also after 2 weeks of intermittently stopping and saying the battery was flat. Even with a brand new battery. Support said this was a 'known issue' - sent another.
2nd replacement Flash has just died after just over 1 week. On inspection, battery and insides were again very rusty/ corroded.
This was an apparently cheap item that quickly showed itself to be way overpriced. Even if they paid you $20 to take them, the lost time and frustration would still make them overpriced
The build quality just isn't there and Quality control appears to be non existant!
Support while initally helpful is then shooting themselves in the foot by simply sending out more of the same disfunctional items, obviously from the same bad batch. They are not even bothering to chech that the insides and battery have not already succumbed to corrosion before wasting shipping and their customers time dealing with yet another dud.
Misfit need to realise every defective unit they send out is another nail in their brand's coffin with another disgruntled customer sharing their bad experience with their circle of friends.
A special mention too has to be made of the Misfit Flash's Clip. This is also very poorly designed and manufactured. The style is not sufficiently secure and the material too thin and britle. The first clip lasted less then 1 week before splitting and the Flash falling out.
Update 16 March: I got this astounding message from Misfit support:
" Regarding the Flash water resistance, according to the most recent update, Flash is water-resistant up to 30m and suitable for everyday use. This means Flash is splash/rain resistant, but NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, and similar water work. 3atm or 30m is not suitable for swimming and bathing."
So apparently the advertised, 'water resistant to 30m' doesn't mean what it says, rather it means whatever they say it means. Forget about 30 meters, even showering is off limits.
Sorry Misfit but this is just outright false advertising!
- No charging, i understand the newer fitbit devices only need charging maybe once a week, but the misfit removes that worry completely.
- Seems pretty accurate to me, i did the same step and sleep tests with the fitbit and both seemed around the same.
- Tells the time, which is actually more helpful than you might think.
- Much prefer the point system used to track activity over the step counter on the fitbit, you get more points for more strenuous exercise.
- Really liking the IFTTT integration with the button, bit of a gimmick but opens up some really fun ideas.
- I understand the sport band isn't very good, so i bought the flash link + iGuerburn silicone band for a few dollars less and it works great, plus you get the clip as well.
- The misfit link app has some major problems, don't bother with it. Just get the regular misfit app and you'll be fine. I really don't know why they created 2 separate apps with so much overlap in functionality.
- Feels a little cheap, but then again it's only $20 so what do you expect, certainly doesn't feel $80 cheaper than the flex.
- No haptic feedback, i do miss the vibration alarm on the fitbit.
It's a really nice activity tracker for the price you pay, lots of good features and I don't regret dropping the $100 fitbit in a drawer. Ideally i'd like them to make a better sport band and add haptic feedback, even if it means bumping the price up a little i think it would be worthwhile. The apps are a pretty big issue but if you just stay away from the misfit link app you'll be better off until the issues are fixed.
The good: It's small and tracks your aerobic activity. Easy to clip onto your belt loop. The app is super simple to use, and the graphics are wonderful. I like that it uses points instead of steps. If you're someone who doesn't own a watch, the time is surprisingly easy to read on here. The camera function and 'find your phone' are cool, if not simply novel.
The bad: The sleep function is useless and not to be relied on. I entertained it for a few nights but then I stopped caring about the sleep function when I realized that while studying for several hours at my desk, it reported I was asleep. In addition, the wording for the sleep tracking is odd and vague. "Restful" is code word for "deep sleep" - c'mon, really? Switching between activity tracker and camera function is annoying - I wish I could just program three presses to equal the picture taking function but this option isn't available.
Overall: Simple, small, good as an entry level activity tracker. It does it's job. Horrible for sleep tracking (I use the Sleep Cycle app instead). Only measures walking/running and doesn't measure calories burned while lifting at the gym, but that was to be expected. I'd recommend it.
