Top customer reviews
The app looks well-developed, but it lacks functionality that other devices offer -- functionality that is something an app can control, rather than something intrinsic to the bulb (like timed on/off).
I hate having to re-pair every morning when my phone hasn't been more than 2 feet away from the bulb. I hate that I can't set the auto-off for more than 5 minutes because it "forgets" what it is doing (if you re-open the app and re-pair, it will go "OH!" and continue counting down from when it forgot). I hate that if you switch between scenes, you don't have any control over the brightness of the incoming scene. All of this is the user interface, and would be fixable. However, the app has not had anything other than bug updates since March 2016 (6 weeks after I bought mine) so nothing is going to change.
I gave Misfit Bolt 16 months... which is apparently longer than Misfit gave it themselves, since it is no longer available on their website. I just wish I'd bought it at the $25 price only to discover it was intrinsically flawed, rather than more than twice that.
It has, at least, taught me that I can get a lot of value out of a LED smart bulb... as long as the app is smart too.
Problems with disconnected bulbs:
If your phone disconnects from the bulb (as it sometimes does for no clear reason), then the sunrise sequence will not happen at all. If you restart your phone, your bulbs will also be disconnected. This means that if you restart your phone, at say, 5pm. Then, later that evening, you're going to bed and you set the sunrise for the next morning (without realizing that your bulbs are still disconnected and need to reconnect), you won't get a sunrise the next morning. The app gives you an android notification when there are no connected bulbs when you set the sunrise time, but it's easy to miss (it shows up as a little android icon in the upper left corner of your screen). So, you should double-check to make sure your bulbs are connected to the app. I've had trouble reconnecting to the bulb, but found that unplugging the lamp and then plugging it back in seems to reset it so that the app can reconnect to it.
Regarding the sunrise sequence:
If you want the sunrise to wake you up in the morning, there appears to be no way to change how quickly the bulb moves through the sunrise sequence - it's 30 minutes long, period. So, if you're a light sleeper who wakes up in response to low-levels of light, then you should set the sunrise time to much later - e.g. if you want to wake up at 8am, you might need to set the sunrise time to 8:25am. This will trigger the beginning of "sunrise" at 7:55am.
TL;DR The bulb has wonderful colors and can be very bright or dim but its software has a lot of connectivity issues.
The colors are cool
The simulated sunrise is nice, especially on dark winter mornings
Bluetooth connectivity is terrible, the bulb disconnects from the app overnight when my phone is a foot away from it and doesn't move which causes the simulated sunrise to fail
The options in app are limited, no turn on timer other than the simulated sunrise, no way to control anything other than the brightness level for the built in color changing programs, not much at all other than a colorful lightbulb
