Colin Champ, researcher and practicing physician in the study of cancer, provides an accessible and authoritative insider story of the winding, perilous journey of how and why we got it wrong in several main areas of health. Deconstructing the crumbling diet-heart hypothesis and the supposed benefits of grains, the threat of salt and meat and other slow-dying myths, Dr. Champ explains what is wrong and how you can do it right. If, in the end, we are not all suffering the agony of Laocoon (the last chapter tells you the story), the misguided medicine of the title has caused much harm and this book will help us get back on the right path. --Dr. Richard D. Feinman, Professor of Biochemistry and author of The World Turned Upside Down
Colin Champ has applied Occam s razor to the muddled and often wrong-headed world of nutrition and exercise by producing an irreverent, but actionable, guide to better health while having more fun along the way. --Dr. Kenneth Ford, Founder & CEO, Institute of Human and Machine Cognition
The ultimate reference for taking control of your health. The path to optimal health is not a direct one, but this book certainly provides the vital road map. --Mike McCandless, Founder and former CEO, Scivation

This book is a great read and I highly recommend it.
I've spent quite a bit of time trying to understand the most recent research on diet composition and it's effects on the body, including hunting down and speaking to a number of physicians well-studied in this area. Dr. Champ's book not only echoed what I had learned; it also provided me with significantly MORE information than I was able to uncover on my own, and opened my eyes to topics I never even looked into regarding general health and fitness.
This info is also delivered it in a concise, and easy to understand manner, despite going into some of the technical medical details.
In this book, Dr. Champ does an incredible job at clearly outlining many key concerns the average American has related to diet and overall health, and why much of the rhetoric from the last 50 years has been misleading or just wrong. He discusses the history of the creation of the "recommended" American diet, and why physicians and the public have been misinformed over the years.
Another great thing about the book is that he provides bulleted summaries after every chapter covering the main points and the key action items the reader can take to put into effect Dr. Champ's recommendations.
The book covers diet composition, cholesterol, diseases like diabetes and heart disease, bone health, fitness and well being, vitamins, and other areas.
Frankly, the toughest part about reading this book is keeping an open mind on some of the recommendations that go counter to what I have been told for many years. However, a key principle of this book (and something I've corroborated through my own research), is that there is so much misinformation that has been disseminated to the public over the years and it's critical to keep an open mind in order to discover the truth about preventative medicine.
Dr. Champ does not proselytize but guides and suggests methods in which we can all do a better job with getting our health on track. Most importantly, he motivates us to challenge both our bodies and our beliefs to be healthier and happier. I finished the book enthusiastic and motivated to be healthier with some scientific knowledge to help me on my journey.
I actually ended up buying several copies to share with friends, family and colleagues who are undergoing struggles with their health and/or energy levels and I'm excited to share with them as I am sure it will have a similar inspirational effect for them.
