As the story opens, we follow our heroine Lisette Lavigne as she escapes her fiancé in the
middle of the night, with her family in tow and in a search of Captain Daniel Hillary, who she hopes will take them to England and to safety.
Captain Daniel Hillary is drop dead gorges and a scoundrel who loves two simple pleasures in life, a woman's supple curves and his Indiaman ship, not necessarily in that order. He's just given his mistress her marching orders and is looking forward to leaving New Orleans when Lisette, all dressed in black and impersonating a widow, confronts him.
We've met Daniel in the previous books and I wondered about the woman Ms. Grace would give him. He certainly needed a strong counterpart but I also wanted someone that has charm and wit. Lis, as he keeps calling her, was a perfect match for him. This young woman proved to be made of stern stuff, yet when it came to her brother's needs, displaying her vulnerable side made our hero want to protect her from anyone that meant them harm. It also revealed to us a secret or two he not only kept it from us, but from his family as well. We finally get to know what's behind his `devil may care' guilt ridden attitude and why he never allows any women passengers on his ship [unless they're his family, that is].
Something about Lis touches his protective heart and he agrees to take her in but also making sure that this `widow' is aware of his attraction to her.Read more ›
A couple of months ago I read Lady Amelia's Mess and a Half and we got to meet the scoundrel Daniel Hillary. I mean in that book he was a scoundrel and you wonder if he was ever going to be to more than that. Secretly he does have an honorable bone in his body. I know, what a shock. However, he doesn't like showing that off. Come on that would ruin his devil may care attitude towards women; definitely would ruin his reputation as a rake. Anyways, let me proceed.
Miss Lisette Lavigne is trying to escape the clutches of her betrothed and make it to the safety of England. However, nothing ever goes according plan. Honestly, would you really want it to? Some how she manages to convince Captain Daniel Hillary to take her to England. Yet she happen to omit some very important details, like her cousin and brother would be traveling with her. That's just the start of the fun.
Oh man, I think I love Daniel's story the best. Granted I'm kinda partial to a story that is set to the high seas. For one thing you never know what's going to happen and second I get use words like swashbuckling.
I admire how Lisette looks out for her family. Granted it might not be the best way, but she tries. Plus, you get to see the honorable bone that Daniel has inside. I have to say that's worth the read in itself. Not only that, you learn why he is the way he is. To top it all off you have to see who is the villain, it wouldn't be a Samantha Grace book if it didn't have a twist or a twisted villain.Read more ›
Captain Daniel Hillary is a powerful man with a fleet of ships at his disposal but he has one rule: No women on board. However, Daniel finds it hard to deny the beautiful Miss Lavigne. The one time he breaks his own rules Daniel may find himself in over his head. There is more to Miss Lavigne than meets the eye and Daniel is determined to uncover all of her secrets.
Lisette and Daniel may find love on the trip to England but will they be able to survive the vengeful man she left behind?
Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie is witty, suspenseful and utterly romantic. There are so many things that I like about this story. It's fast-paced and so darn sweet. It's impossible not to fall in love with Lisette and Daniel. Their romance is wonderful! Ms. Grace tells Lisette and Daniel's story in vivid detail. I felt like I was on board Daniel's ship with them. I could smell the ocean air and feel the boat sway in the water.
This is my first trip into Ms. Grace's Beau Monde Bachelor series and now I cannot wait to read another one! It's not necessary to have read the first two books to follow this one. Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie is delightfully entertaining. The characters are stand-out and the plot line is intense and beautiful.
Samantha Grace gives us a classy historical romance with Miss Lavigne's Little White Lie!
