About the Author

K. Larsen has a weird addiction to goat cheese and chocolate martinis, not together though.
She adores her dog. She hates dirty dishes and loves sarcasm and funny people.
Mara White is a contemporary romance and erotica writer who laces forbidden love stories with hard issues, such as race, gender and inequality. She holds an Ivy League degree but has also worked in more strip clubs than even she can remember. She is not a former Mexican telenovela star contrary to what the tabloids might say, but she is a former ballerina and will always remain one in her heart. She lives in NYC with her husband and two children and yes, when she's not writing you can find her on the playground.

The ultimate second chance love story that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Going into this book, I had a feeling that I was in for an emotional ride. Michelle (one of our blog reviewers) read this book about a week before me, and then she went on and on about her book hangover. So I held onto this book for a while, until I knew I had the time to read this in private, with tissues and alcohol on standby.

One New Year's Eve, Titan and Jesenia meet for the first time under the awning of the aptly named, Hope's Diner. On this day, Titan is consumed with grief and guilt to the point of wanting to end his life. Jesenia feels trapped in a loveless relationship which she can't walk away from, for unknown reasons. For a brief time, the two bond together and despite that limited time, never let those memories fade away.

Like many others, I am fascinated by the idea of Craig's List Missed Connections. How someone sees another or barely interacts with them, yet that moment impacts the other so greatly, they don't want to walk away. That's the basis of this story, as Titan tries to find the woman who not only saved his life, but whose eyes have a permanent place in his mind.

Given the time between their first meeting and the letter, I wasn't surprised how hard it was to find that connection with Jesenia. But Titan's letter is so romantic, it catches the attention of many and gathers momentum via social media.

It was amusing how Titan and Jesenia's paths cross again. I loved how there was no doubt between them that their time at the diner was a random moment. These two belonged together and some events just delayed their union. I also adored both of their kids, Jesenia's daughter, Angie, and Titan's son, Luke.

Well, that was a beautiful story- predictable but beautiful. After Jezebel I was anxious to read another of her novels, but not this. Well wrote, well executed but I am not one for heartbreaking novels

Titan and Jesenia met 20 years ago at a poignant moment in both of their lives, where the encounter was significant enough that they never forgot the other person and the memory of those few hours together clung to a special part of their hearts. Titan, a widower, decides to try and find Jess by putting out a missed connection request on Craig's List, which goes viral and eventually Jess sees it.

The storyline is compelling and both Titan and Jess are relatable. They are in their 40s and have a child each. Titan is an all around gentleman, he's made mistakes in the past that he is still repentant for and he doesn't want to live with any more regrets. Jess is one of those decorators who can restore unwanted or recycled items and adapt them to any room. Her marriage to a senator is very polished and proper on the outside, so Jess is accustomed to hiding her real self behind a façade of smiles and practiced perfection. Titan has a son, Luke (15), and Jess has a daughter, Angie (21). I really adored Luke and Angie. They wanted the best for their parents and were also best friends with their parents, giving them the nudge they needed to move forward.

The story revolves around more than the missed connection between Ty and Jess, but also about the people they've become as a result of their first meeting, and the people they further develop into with one another, particularly Jess. There's some important themes in the story - living life to the fullest because there are no guarantees, going after what one wants and fighting for it because no one else will, and that love can heal a lot of wounds when the acceptance is whole and unconditional. Great story and characters overall except that I couldn't fully connect to either Ty or Jess, but that is probably just me, and I still enjoyed the book.

Oh My. All the Angst

I loved that it was about two older characters. Not enough romance books are written about people in their 30's & 40's. The Children were BRILLIANT, Luke and Angelina were delightful. They often came across as more mature than the adults, but given the situations they'd grown up in, that wasn't surprising.

I enjoyed the back and forth of the journey with Titan and Jess, the push pull of will they/won't they make it. Will their Second chance be fulfilled?

The only things I found problematic were that the language was a little ethereal and superfluous at times and I hated the name Jesenia. Every time someone said it, it made me roll my eyes. The prologue confused the hell out of me, and I kept waiting for it to make sense, which it does eventually and it's done well, but once you put the pieces together, it felt a little unnecessary.

I purchased this book because of all the great reviews being posted. I tried to win it in a giveaway but it never happened. I felt a strong sense to own it and read it. Weird huh... it has been the best 3.99$ I've ever purchased on Amazon for my kindle. I don't even know how to sum it up in writing. I fell in love with Titan and Yesenia's story. What a romantic love affair. I knew it was too good to be true. I've never cried so much in one sitting. I cried for the cruelty that life gives us. Something we must accept. Hard as it is. I cried for Luke, poor boy lost his mom and now dad. For Yesenia, for finally finding happiness and love to loose it all so fast. And Ty, tall dark and handsome. My heart aches. I find closure knowing that he lived his last months happy and content in Yesenia's love. In the Epilogue, It is warm and heartfelt. It's beautiful. If I could rate this book higher than a 5 star I would. It's just that good!
