Oh boy. The first couple of chapters were very interesting and then it turned into a weird labyrinth of incoherent events. It was difficult to tell what was in the character's mind and what happened in real time. I couldn't make sense of any of it after the husband and daughter disappeared. Maybe with some kind of roadmap or hints along the way, I could have liked it. But as is, I don't recommend it. It promises so much more than it delivers.

I'm bias because this style/structure wasn't for me. If you're looking for a whiplash type of twists in a story- this is it. While the story was good, I found myself frustrated and confused a lot. It could be because I was impatient. I think this would make a great movie and would of rathered watch it then read it. I don't mind multiple POVs or going back and forth between past and present, but it was not clear enough here. Some twists were very good but then made me question the main character and what she was going through. Overall, it was original and I liked the concept- not so much the structure; I would definitely want to see it as a movie though.

Throughout the whole story, I felt that the main character was awfully weak, whiney and self-centered - even narcissitic and made me feel very uncomfortable in her delerium and confusion. People with mental issues always make me feel this way as you don't know what's really going on in their minds as they have such a hard time describing this and have no idea themselves.

The end of the story clears a lot of issues up, but during the reading of the progressive happenings, nothing was clear at all, because the main character was so confused by and with her relationships to her lover, his daughter and her mother. I felt as though I was plodding my way through unfinished sentences and bleary mental pictures, but does after all make sense at the end.

Two stars because, for better or worse, I kept reading. At first glance, this book seemed to be something I would really enjoy - a mysterious thriller with constant plot twists - but overall it fell flat. I felt a large portion of the book was spent trying to explain why every character kept making extremely irrational decisions. Though the character's thought processes were mapped out in first person, I still felt the character(s) often did not reach a reasonable conclusion based on those thought processes (ex. Greta: "I should call the police. Any reasonable person would call the police. I'll call the police. Wait - but then I'd have to admit something is wrong. I'll go back to the island in the middle of the night!" *falls asleep on floor*). A bit of a simplified example, but one scene where I felt the reasoning jumped to a very strange conclusion, without a good enough explanation. To be fair though, there would not have been much of a story had the police gotten involved earlier.

So, I was entertained enough to finish reading, but this was far from the best book I have read.

This story takes you into the mind of a deeply troubled woman whose life has been framed by a horrible experience as a child. As the story unfolds, other troubled women of different generations reveal the depth of pain and shame they try to hide from others and themselves. Most of the action takes place in a remote place called Lake Malice. Take a few hours to read this book--it will take you to places most we won't recognize. It's a page turner indeed.

I tried to like this book. I really did. It moved so slow and was full of overly descriptive, bland, writing with very little to no dialogue. To say I was bored throughout the entire book would be an understatement. I suffered through, hoping it would eventually pick up or lead to a decent ending but it failed miserably. I didn't care about a single character and the ending did nothing for me. I wasted my Kindle First this month for sure.

This book is really special! I dare you to guess what will happen next! The story of Greta's life story is released slowly! Perfectly! The suspense is so thick! This is not my first psychological thriller", but it's one of the best! It is well written... the author, a psychologist, puts into a fictional story enough details gradually, to weave a plot that will make it hard for you to put this book down! The Audible narrator did an excellent job giving life to the characters. You are really there! ... feeling what the characters feel. Enjoy this roller coaster ride!

I wanted to like this book but it was too clunky and out of sorts. I know it had been translated but I don't think that is the root of the issue here. There were a lot of little twists that eventually make sense but the confusion leading up to the reveals just isn't worth it.

As many other reviews have said, there is eventually some payoff but it just was't worth it to me to get there. I finished the book and don't hate the fact that I did but if I went back in time I would've chosen a different book to read.

The author created complex characters with different attitudes and actions but having a common bond. The story creates characters which at first seen to go in all directions. The book is a good one to read, there are no tell tale signs of what is going to happen. At first the book was confusing juxtaposing what is real and what exist in the character's head. But it comes together magnificently. The author reveals the story as suspense making the reader yearning to know " well, what is going to happen next? "

I typically like psychological thrillers. I found this book took me on a roller coaster ride. I wasn't sure what to think about the protagonist which could have been what the author wanted.

The end brought a lot of closer for the female characters which I found a little exhorting in a sense.

The storyline definitely got me thinking and even feeling a bit disconnected and frustrating at points.

The author could be more gifted than the reader may give her credit for.
