The purpose of every endeavor should be to create an example of excellence in a community. Throughout my conversations with Pastor Eric, I believe he has crafted a model for churches and non-profits that will revolutionize their mission and maximize their impact. Not only does his church serve the community with excellence, but it has also answered the question of sustainability and profitability. --Horst Schulze Current President and CEO, The West Paces Hotel Group, Atlanta Founding President and COO of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company
All too often the fundamentals that enable a business to function successfully and profitably are shunned by the not-for-profit world as if the very thought of making a profit was a disgrace to the mission and values of the organization. Without a powerful economic engine to drive and sustain it, no organization can survive to achieve its vision and realize its true potential. --
--Sheldon Harris, Former President, Cold Stones Cremery
Eric Bahme has put his finger on an issue that needs to be addressed. It is unfortunate that too many pastors allow their dreams for ministry to be squelched. There is extensive content in this book that will encourage pastors to live out their dreams. This book will challenge pastors to look for opportunities where a for-profit business can help fund a non-profit ministry. ----Dr. Billy A. Melvin, Executive Director National Association of Evangelicals 1967-1995
About the Author
As a cutting edge entrepreneur, a passionate preacher, and an inspirational visionary, Eric Bahme (pronounced “Bame”) has spent his life infusing his love for the Lord into his passion for entrepreneurship. Today, Eric serves as the founder and president of KingdomPoint International, a national non-profit organization created to network and empower other ministries through a mission-based entrepreneurial movement. He also possesses a number of valuable roles at Nehemiah Project International Ministries; a business development organization that provides biblically based entrepreneurial courses globally. More recently, Eric has aligned with BGW Sustainable Solutions LLC, a firm that employs architects, MEP engineers, intern architects, designers, drafters, project managers, and personnel in the departments of Business Development, Marketing, Accounting, IT Networking and Administration. With a design portfolio that includes more than 10 million square feet of educational and worship space, BGW has generated more than $1 billion in construction revenue since 1998 and has moved into helping non-profits find sustainable solutions for long-term growth. In addition, Eric serves as teaching pastor at Anthem Church in Portland, Oregon. Born in Arizona, Eric knew from an early age that he wanted to enter the ministry. Following the completion of Eric’s education, Eric and his wife Rita accepted their first job as Sr. Pastors of New Life Christian Fellowship in Seattle where they served for 14 years. In 2002, Eric and Rita moved with their daughter, Alyssa, to Portland, Oregon and founded Eastside Foursquare Church, giving birth to a new entrepreneurial model of ministry. The church purchased a large hotel campus with a vision for mission-based entrepreneurialism, which combines solid business practices with the mission of the church. Eastside, a congregation that grew to more than 700 attendees in three years, later planted six campus churches with numerous ministries and witnessed more than 3,500 first time commitments to Christ. During this time, Eric also became a managing partner in one of the top 100 Hospitality Management Companies in the United States, successfully initiating and expanding the company's management contract business and ownership. In addition, Eric received a partner position in Genesis Hotels LLC, a collection of franchised hotels throughout the Northwest.

Very important in today's church and critical to the financial sustainability in the future
Beyond telling the story of how the Church was formed the author goes into further detail about how you can do it too. Not that this is a get rich quick book! That's what I really appreciated, the honesty, this book shows that it isn't an easy path to take. But if it's a path that you feel called to follow, this book will show you that all things are certainly possible through Christ who strengthens you. If you're feeling led to leverage business to impact your ministries this book is a must read.
I also checked out the website [...] and noticed that the business plan that was used to get funding is posted.
On a more positive note, I still believe the MBE concept has merit and I would encourage those who believe they have heard a call from God to pursue this type of project to go for it!
