About the Author

New independent author, TC Matson, loves to let her characters voices be heard. With a head full of stories, she puts her keyboard through a beating daily. Regularly she visits the solidity of her writing cave, whether it be on the couch, at her desk, or wherever the three year old can’t reach the laptop. Currently she is publishing her debut novel, Mistaken Identity that stormed the shelves November 4th, 2014. She is an avid reader and is known to devour books within hours. As a romance junkie, Matson sets her sights to try to find stories that are relatable and real. She’s not a fan of vampires, fairies, or any other out of this world fiction stories. And understanding that love isn’t always instant and full of flowers…her writing mirrors it. Matson resides in the peaceful piedmont area of North Carolina with her husband and three boys where she stays hopped up on caffeine and chasing children. She has a relatively normal life managing her home, or as she calls it, her looney bin. Chaos is indefinite and a sense of humor is absolutely a must.

Warning: Major spoilers included in this review ...

So I'm trying to understand these four- and five-star reviews for this book because, honestly, unless we are grading this on potential or the story having been written by a precocious Labrador retriever, I can't give this more than two stars.

The book starts out with our h, Samantha (who goes by Sam, but who is also referred to as Belle by her BFF and H ... yeah, I don't get it either), beginning her new job at some fancy-schmany company in Charlotte, NC. She's lived in this city for a while - apparently, she had a PT job as a cleaning woman for the past year or so - but her BFF Jess was able to get her a job as an Executive Assistant with this much-admired corporation. Apparently, the hiring standards for Executive Assistants aren't that tough any more b/c just any ol' person can be one, according to this book. (And I'm not talking about the fact that she cleaned houses for a while b/c that has nothing to do with it. I'm talking more about her intelligence, or lack thereof. More details below...) And she's lucky enough to work some pretty manageable hours as well. Most days, she leaves the office @ 4 pm and, if she stays at work past 6 pm, she's considered super busy. And her crazy workload! When she talks about her boss flooding her Inbox with emails b/c he is keeping her super busy, she says she got a minimum of 10 emails that day. TEN!!! Can you believe that? OMG, she must be overwhelmed, the poor thing. How can she possibly handle as many as TEN emails in one day???

And I guess we are to accept the fact that she was hired as the Executive Assistant to the COO of the company (some dude named Adam) but she met him for the first time on her first day of work??? So Mr.

TC Matson's writing was surprisingly impressive for a debut novel. Her ability to draw you into a scene and cause you to lose yourself was fabulous. I felt alongside the characters as each scene unfolded. This book centered on Sam and an issue that wouldn’t go away. I can't say I there was a part I didn’t like but there were a couple of difficult but necessary scenes that were hard to read. The way it ended made those parts earlier to swallow.

Sam was cute and feisty. She knew who she was and didn't try to be anything else. Tanner was hard not to love. He was a breath of fresh air in the romance genre. Logan was sexy and cocky and oh so yummy. I identified strongly with Tanner his mindset and lifestyle are very similar to mine. Jess and Mack were AWESOME! Jess was Sam’s bestie. I loved her allegiance to Sam, but she didn't cross lines like I see in a lot of bestie characters these days. Mack had a smaller roll than the rest, but I was instantly a Mack fan. He was just so laid back and comfortable to have in the scenes. I hope we get more Mack in the next book.
<blockquote><em><strong> “It’s fascinating to watch a man of his stature be so domesticated. It’s downright erotic."</strong></em></blockquote>
The plot had a lot of twists and I have a sneaking suspicion that we haven’t seen the end of it. Matson has a great concept with Sam's story. The plot flowed beautifully and secrets and sins were revealed along the way. I never felt like something was missing or unbelievable. As a thriller, it was fun to try and piece together whodunit as I read. I never actually guessed and was truly surprised when I found out who the stalker was.

Sam, (Samantha), has started a new job, has put her life back on track after she caught her ex cheating on her. She hasn't dated since. While working her new job, she went on a few dates with Logan. That didn't go so well and things ended when he wanted to man handle her when she didn't have the same feelings for him. Sam and Jess, Sam's roommate, go dancing one evening to blow off steam and in walks Mr. Eye Candy. Sam named him Mr. Eye Candy after riding in the elevator with him at work. He's the most gorgeous, sexy, hot man she has ever seen. And so begins the road of these two people drawn to each other, but someone is leaving notes for Sam and she doesn't know who it is.
Tanner has spoken to Sam while riding the elevator with her. He knows she is drawn to him. He likes her. When he sees her dancing with her roommate at the club, he wants to know more about her. She's different from the other women he has known and he wants to see who she really is. When she asks his name, he omits part of his name. He's guarded, as he should be, as he has to be, as he has been. From the omission, to the stalking, a past that has not been revealed, an attack that leaves physical and emotional scars, this book tells their story of healing. The emotions, betrayals, secrets and hurt that these two endure will forever stay in your heart. I give this 5 stars.

went into Mistaken Identity with a bit of hesitation. The author, TC Matson has become a good friend. She is genuinely one of the nicest people I know. So why was I worried about her book? Well, what if it sucked? I didn’t want to have to tell my friend that I didn’t like it.
Thank God it was good. It isn’t perfect. It’s her first book, so it would have been odd if it had been, but for a first book, it was really good. It’s a romantic suspense and I really felt both of the elements. I read it cover-to-cover in one night. Stayed up way too late and was so very tired the next day. But I was really sucked in and just could not put it down.

Overall Rating: 4 stars- Kept telling myself “just one more chapter.”

In Mistaken Identity we meet Samantha. She’s an every-girl looking for a career and maybe even love.
When Samantha meets Logan, he seems like a great guy. They date for a while but then don’t feel quite right. Through this, TC did a great job of building the suspense. As the reader, I felt my warning bells going off right along with Sam’s.

In the meantime, Sam’s career is blossoming. Her interactions both at work and with her roommate at home do a great job of making us genuinely like and care about her. She has a bit of a crush on an unnamed hottie at work (who hasn’t been there?!) and it adds a great light feel to the book.

Tanner’s fatal dimples develop and that pull is there again — the one in my chest that makes no sense to me, yeah that one.

Once Sam finally lands a date with the now-named-hottie Tanner, you know that Logan is not a good guy and Tanner is. Just how good or bad they most might be remains to be seen.

He’s money walking, and here I am, pocket change.
