I grew up watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and revered Mr. Rogers as a role model. I wanted to be just like him when I grew up.
Sadly, I never had a chance to meet this wonderful, gentle, brilliant man, who passed away in 2003. Of course, now I'm a parent, and after having read this book, I can imagine his advice in all sorts of situations.
Yes, this is an old book, long out of print -- it was published in 1983. You won't find any advice about raising kids on social media or how to break their addiction to iPads. You will find timeless insights into childhood and into parenting. Forget about fad of the month, Fred Rogers is the real deal. Buy a used copy.... and then pass it down to your own children.
