And the Sheriff! Wow! I guess I'm supposed to be happy for the ending. I guess we are to assume she's still the town Doctor. But considering the Sheriff never approved of her having the job that is in doubt. It was sure hard for him to say he respected her and that she was a good doctor (heck I thought he was going to choke on the words) but he even thought to himself after saying this that she still shouldn't be the town doctor. Really? She's good and you trust her but she's not good enough to be a doctor???? And he never amended that statement.
So in the end did he decide to stop being a first class chauvinistic jerk and actually finally approve of her as a Doctor even though he never bothered to tell her. I guess since he made her his wife it's assumed he finally did. But then again maybe she's not the Doctor anymore and he got what he wanted after all...she's now only doing what he believes women are good for.
This would've been a wonderful story if the Sheriff would've come around to accept her as the Doctor. I kept waiting for it but it never happened. Same with the town. In Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman the town welcomed her with her name on the sign for her clinic at her birthday and the celebration was for her!. She didn't have just a thank you sign and then got ignored for a Christmas Eve celebration and a special wedding in town. They actually took the time to let her know she was finally welcome. The town in this story should've gone to more length considering they sure had no problem letting her know she wasn't welcomed. But I guess a thank you sign is all they could bother themselves with.
The Sheriff was "nice" some of the time and there were great scenes between them in this story until his arrogance about her being a doctor constantly and repeatedly got in the way. But it didn't get in the way of him taking her to bed but it didn't change his opinion of her. She was too stupid to let him take advantage of her. But then again sex in these kind of stories always seems to turn the women into stupid people who have no problem destroying their reputations for a quick roll in the sheets. Are we sure this isn't 2017 instead of the 1800's?
I guess I just expect more about my stories. I love flawed characters but come on this never having redemption and just sleeping around is not romantic to me. I love to see the people come around and realize they were wrong. The Sheriff did to a point but not enough and not BEFORE he tried to bed her. How is that a hero? And just once I wish a writer would make smart intelligent women who don't ignore their brains when the man wants to take their virginity despite the fact the man is a big jerk. He's a good kisser and he turns her to mush so I guess that's ALL that matters. He couldn't appreciate her as a Doctor and approve of her in the job but he can have great sex so who cares right?
But then again I'm supposed to just roll with it too I guess. But sorry I can't do that. I expect too much out of my heroes and heroines to just "roll with it".
