What a glorious mix of songs! While all are from the two J.R. R. Tolkien movie trilogies, they stand alone on their own merits. All of the tracks are great; this time I cannot pick my favorites. It would totally depend on my mood, the weather (sunny or drear), and how long it has been since I heard whichever song last. The harmonies are close; the words, easily understandable. The high parts are high; the low parts, rumbling. The collaborations are perfectly selected voices (especially Tim Foust in Misty Mountains). Taylor Davis's violin adds another dimension to I See Fire and May It Be.

I went ahead and bought this because there are versions on YouTube and I love them there. This CD will let me listen to them without hogging bandwidth or being distracted by the wonderful videos. No guilt about listening to them at work!

If you like the movies or vocal music, you will most likely enjoy these. If you like both, you certainly will.

What is there to say... Peter Hollens is talented! This Hobbit and Lord of the Rings inspired album is breathtaking! They are just as good if not better than the original songs! I don't see how he does it! To be able to sing all of the different voices like he does and to mix them all together in such high quality recordings. Peter is reinventing acapella music! I can't wait to see what he has in store for the future!

My ONLY complaint is that it's short. As a long time Peter fan and longer time Tolkien fan, this was a perfect marriage. I'd LOVE to have Peter do the FULL "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold"... that would have pushed this to a length of further enjoyment. :) But I'm, sure he'll read this and I could tweet the request as well, but here I am.
I can't imagine a reason a PH fan wouldn't love this.

Simply lovely. I was sent a YouTube of one cut by a friend and really liked what I heard. Now I have the cd in the car, a great way to combat rush hour frustration.

I will be watching for more releases by Peter Hollens. I just wish I could download direct from Amaxon to my Kindle... ah well I have a computer so it will happen the hard way.

Warning: listening to Peter Hollens' Misty Mountains album could provoke a spontaneous Lord of the Rings/Hobbit Marathon. It did with me, as I went back to the source material to see just how the songs fit in. The answer is, very well. With his spare style and rich vocals, Peter's covers are perfectly in keeping with Tolkien's Middle Earth.

The album features twelve songs, from "I See Fire" to a "Hobbit Drinking Medley," the latter of which includes the Dwarves' "Blunt the Knives" song. Personally, I had no idea there were so many LOTR/Hobbit-related songs out there. Peter has been releasing them for years, but until he put them all in one place it wasn't obvious just how many there were. Rather than bore you by listing them all myself, please take a look at the track listing above.

The music isn't all just Peter. Premier anime/game/fantasy violinist Taylor Davis accompanies him on "I See Fire" and "May It Be," while Home Free's Tim Foust provides earth-rumbling bass for "Misty Mountains" and the Vlogbrothers' Hank Green sings background in the "Hobbit Drinking Medley."

My favorite tracks are "I See Fire" - largely because of Taylor's superb violin - and "The Last Goodbye." In "Goodbye" Peter really unlimbers his vocal cords and lets his range show; his voice soars from a near-whisper to awe-inspiring heights. It gives me chills.

Turning from content to the CD itself, the packaging is a standard diamond case with high-quality cover and inserts. Photography, graphics, and copy are all first-rate. The CD itself plays well, and the audio is excellent.

If you're a fan of The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, whether of the books or of the movies, you should give this a listen. Speaking as a long-time Tolkien fan myself, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

This is the album I've been waiting for! His work is wonderful, and this is another shining example of his genius with vocals and music. That songs are similar to the originals, but all the better because of the changes. Awesome CD!!!

What a great find! My kiddos and I have listened to this cd at least twice a day since we have gotten it. This man's voice and talent are AMAZING! If you are a Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fan as we are this is a great accompany to the movies.
We highly enjoy numbers 1,2,4,5,8,12!
