Let me first say that I live in Phoenix and spend a lot of time outdoors. I've owned five different MistyMate products, and a couple of knock-offs. MistyMate's cheapest original products have performed better and lasted longer for me than the best knock-offs I've tried. The 16 Classic is an older model with lots of capacity to keep misting periodically all day even in the Phoenix heat, and the nozzle creates a wide, fine-particle spray that really cools well. The bottle and pump mechanism, and valve and misting nozzle, are well-constructed and have shown no signs of breaking. So the core of what it does is solid and does exactly what it should. The rest of it is not the best design though. The seals leak air (never water that I've seen), and having to open the zip cover to re-pump it every time it's sat for several minutes is a minor though definite annoyance. It also completely precludes putting it in a backpack and just having the hose tip stick out where it's useful. I think the cause of the problem is inherent in the way this model is designed; the lid tightens down with an O-ring between the lid and the rim of the pressure bottle. The pressure pushes the lid and therefore the O-ring up, so pressurizing it makes the seal looser rather than neutral or tighter like an internal or external O-ring that contacted the sides of surfaces would. (Many of their newer models do have O-rings that slide inside a tube to seal.) The clip to hold the hose to a convenient spot of clothing was never very effective either, and the snap that holds it to the hose only became looser with use, until it eventually fell off somewhere. It's a cheap little badge clip; I could get a replacement, but it doesn't seem that useful. Would I buy a MistyMate 16 again? For the price, misting power, and water capacity, yes. Could it have been better? Also yes.

I ordered this item because I saw one at a water park recently and it was fantastic. it was 110deg and it felt wonderful to have the mist hit you. So when I got mine i opened it and tried it out but it wouldn't pressurize so I went to the manufactures web sight followed the trouble shooting steps with no resolution. I tried calling customer service for about 5 days then gave up. I am returning this item. MistyMate I believe is a good product to bad they can't back it up with at least a smidgen of customer service.

It was ok, I ended up giving it to a friend though. You have to pump and pump and pump a lot to get a small amount of mist, and you have to do it EACH time, like you can't just pump and leave it charged for when you need it. Seemed a bit cheap to me, next time will get a higher quality one.

The fine mist is nice, but air pressure is short-lived as it requires constant pumping for the next misting. Makes me wonder if there is an air leak or missing gasket. The kinked hose is a hassle, always needing to be straightened. I would not pay more than $10-12 for this thing.

Update: went from four stars for the nice mist, to 2 for the irksome hose, now 1 for durability. Poured the water out after test use, the entire pump assembly fell apart. Never even left the house. Returned, not worth the hassle. Note: item was never abused or misused. I do NOT recommend this model.

Wouldn't hold pressure due to malformed o-ring (went to hardware store for replacement) and the valve itself doesn't remain attached to hose. Would've returned it if it wasn't such an imposition to do so with a low value item. Knew someone who same item (same mfr) last year, and it seemed to be of much higher quality. Disappointed.

I remeber buying these a few years ago for $10, Still does the same good job of cooling the body through a fine mist spray, but we now have to do it at twice the price. Oh well - suck it up if you want an outdoor personal airconditioner..

This is a great product for the price! My son's soccer team loves to get sprayed on hot days. It's the perfect fine mist and is so refreshing. I was worried we'd have to keep refilling it but the water lasts a long time.

Very effective for those really hot days. Though when the humidity is around 70% make sure to use cold water. Even helps to quickly cool the inside of the car if you are in a hurry.
