As is expected of Mitutoyo, this indicator is spot on. I thought it had .0002" backlash at first, but some more testing revealed that our Mazak mill is what had .0002" backlash. It may be a .0005" indicator, but it registers tenths. Ruby tip is great for EDM setup, due to non-conductivity.

This is up there with the B&S, Interapid vertical milling style test indicators. The really cool thing about the mitutoyos (perhaps not every single model) is that your DMS hand or whatever you call the pointy thing, will go clockwise no matter the direction the stylus is moved. I hope this is clear.... anti-magnetic stylus, most indicators come in a nice protective plastic box, this is a sweet value. Ive dropped these things so many times, you would think it would wreck it. Sure the jewel case can crack but my indicators that weren't absolutely thrown are tough to break. Buy this one!

You can never go wrong with mitutoyo. The ruby tip has always been my favorite. Dont know the advantage exactly, but if Renshaw probes use rubies it made sense to get this one. More durrable and smoothe i presume.

I leave this thing on a Noga arm and leave it loose in the shop. Everybody in the shop uses it. People aren't careful with stuff that isn'the theirs and this indicator is still tickin. Cheap and tough.
