Product Description

Style: Standard

The Mitutoyo 293 series Coolant Proof LCD micrometer with a 0 to 1"/0 to 25.4 mm measuring range has a digital single-value LCD readout that displays in inch and metric units with a 0.00005" (0.001 mm) resolution, a 0.00005" accuracy, and a ratchet stop thimble. The ratchet-stop thimble provides an audible sound and stops turning when the spindle comes into contact with the workpiece, providing constant force for consistent measurements between operators.

The micrometer's electronic microprocessor can hold measurements at any position, convert to absolute value, set a temporary zero position, and return to a true zero reading. The electronics housing is Ingress Protection certified IP65, which means that components are resistant to penetration by dust and debris, and resistant to penetration by liquids and coolant up to the force of a low-pressure (to 30 kilonewtons/meter-squared) water jet. The spindle and anvil have flat measuring faces that are carbide-tipped for wear resistance. A spindle lock helps provide secure locking of the measurement position. The micrometer includes, and is powered by, a single SR44 silver oxide battery, and comes with a fitted case for storage.

Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.

This Mitutoyo digimatic micrometer has been just what I needed. I checked the accuracy with some calibration blocks and also to dial in my own error. It performed perfectly and is just what I needed for my application (measuring thickness of plastic bags and plastic containers for my job.)

I used an analog style micrometer for years (a very well made old Starrett I bought used at a gun show), and it is still and accurate and reliable instrument I can count on. But so many things in today's world are measured in metric now, and the old micrometer needed me to work the math to get the dimensions. I finally decided to get a micrometer that would read metric and thought there was no point in looking for an analog one when for the money I could get a good one that would do both. I did some research and found that the Mitutoyo brand, while it doesn't get the prize for being the most svelte or expensive instruments, is very highly regarded and with a reputation for accuracy, consistency and being strongly made. So far in my use of the Digimatic Outside Micrometer I am very happy with the instrument. It is accurate, and repeated measurements have shown it to produce extremely consistent measurements. The price was very reasonable and for the accuracy it was great! It does seem a bit bulky at times, but you have to remember I used that old Starrett for so long and its design is not only classic, but in many ways a piece of art. Don't hesitate on the Mitutoyo brand though, it is an excellent tool.

I needed a dependable and accurate micrometer for high-precision CNC work. I went through several cheaper tools before settling on Mitutoyo, and have no regrets: it provides spot-on, repeatable results down to 0.001 mm, is easy to use, and doesn't randomly quit on you.

I wanted a mike to be able to read to .0001 accuracy and this one fits the bill. I zeroed it and checked the accuracy by measuring known diameter objects such as my pin gauges and it was right on the money. If you're a reloader and want a mike that's consistently accurate for all your needed measurements this is the one. Measurements for the same object are repeatable to the .0001" and you can't ask for better than that.

Recommended for anyone who needs an accurate and consistent mike for your hobby or work. It lives up to expectations and I would not hesitate buying another or recommending it.

I use this mainly for reloading for target shooting and it's exceeded my expectation regarding its repeated accuracy. I would highly recommend this mic when the job requires precision measurements.

This is a great micrometer if you use every day or don't know how to read a vernier scale. It's not good if you want to leave it in your tool box for occasional use.

I bought this, zeroed it and used it a few times before putting it in my tool box. I pulled it out today and the battery wadead. The instructions say to remove the battery if you're not using it for three months or more. If you remove the battery it loses it's zero.

I'll probably sell this and keep using my Starrett micrometer like this one Starrett T444.1XRL-1 Outside Micrometer, Ratchet Stop, Lock Nut, Carbide Faces, 0.0001" Grad. It keeps it's zero no matter how long it's stored and I don't have to mess with a battery every time I want to use it.

Everything works great and is the quality you would expect from Mitutoyo. One thing about it is that if there is a way to turn it off I have not found it, relys on auto off. I would have preferred to have some way to manually turn it off but if the battery lasts as long as they claim I shouldn't have an issue with that.
